We are in the beginning stages of planning a trip to the northeast next summer. We would like to be gone around 3 weeks. Our starting point will probably be Cedar Point in OH and then we would like to visit Niagara Falls and the Finger Lakes in NY. From there we think we would like to go through New Hampshire and Vermont on to Maine where we would like to see Acadia National Park and possibly Freeport/ Boothbay Harbor area. Any suggestions of sites to see in the Finger Lakes region, anything in Vermont or New Hampshire would be greatly appreciated. Any suggestions of campgrounds would also be appreciated. Offhand I would suggest in VT: Burlington,(calls itself the westcoast of New England), Shelburne museum, Ben & Jerry's icecream factory, and if you like art, the Grandma Moses museum in Bennington. RV parks that we stayed at and would recommend are: Aces High RV Park, East Lyme CT Red Apple Campground, Arundel ME Shore Hills Campground, Boothbay ME Timberland Acres RV Park, Trenton ME Sugar Ridge RV Village & Campground, Danville VT Battleboro North KOA, Brattleboro VT Good RV parks are rather hard to find and we stayed at some that I would not recommend. As for the question on what we like: easy hiking and biking trails, dog friendly campgrounds, and normal sight seeing activities. On websites such as this, we have found a lot of information on sights that are off the beaten path which we also like. Thanks again for the information, keep it coming! If you want info on Maine, we have spent three + weeks in the State of Maine for the last twenty years, and mostly in the Acadia National Park area on Mount Dessert Island. Within the park there are many hiking trails and carriage roads that can be used for bike rides. Beware that some carriage roads are closed to bikes. A map and booklet is available to those so inclined. Can point out some points of interest in Maine that we found to be interesting. Maine has much to offer as a vacation spot....... We have stayed at many campgrounds in Maine and as we only use the Cg as a spot to sleep, we choose those who do not provide entertainment...we find and provide our own. sightseeing, visiting points of interest..........Maine has many........ As for campgrounds we currently use; Timberland Acres in Trenton (Ellsworth), Balsam Woods in Abbott Village (Greenville/Moosehead Lake Area). There are a large number of Cg that are "resort type" high priced-we will entertain you establishments, but not our forte'....... A place we found very interesting was the "Castle in the Clouds" south of Center Harbor in New Hampshire. NH has much to also offer, but our love is Maine....... In Vermont, we are within 25 miles of Vermont, we enjoy the Bennington area, a small city with many points of interest. South of Bennington, on VT Route 7 at 6.4 miles, in Center Pownal, there is a quaint...clean, well maintained, quiet, small,(62 sites), campground named "Pine Hollow Cg" which is owned and operated by a husband & wife team. A great place for R&R.
If you are in the area, Lake George in New York is very nice. I and my son found Fort Ticonderoga at the north end to be fascinating, tons of history. We stayed at Lake George Escape Evergreen Resort -- http://www.lakegeorgeescape.com/main.htm The resort is expensive, but you get a lot and it has great reviews. One note: if and when you travel along Lake George itself, make sure you take Rte 9A, NOT Rte 9. Rte 9 is just a highway, 9A is the local road where you can see the lake and the views are great. Driving is a bit tight for a Class A type RV.

Let me add a plug for the corning glass works.i was there a few years ago and loved to watch them blow glass and the Baseball Hall of Fame too in upstate NY..... Lake George is wonderful as well.
When fueling up, try to avoid getting your gas (or diesel) in New York or Connecticut. You'll pay 30-40 cents per gallon EXTRA. NJ is great (remember, it's full service by law!) as is MA.

We've traveled through New England twice and these suggestions are some great ones. I would recommend Brattleboro KOA in Vermont as well. It's small but quaint. My suggestion for Vermont is to get a map and travel alot of the back roads. You simply cannot get lost in Vermont. All back roads seem to loop around and come back out to main roadways. It's a great way to see the entire state and won't take you long. Don't miss Danforth Pewter, there are several locations. We also went in search of the Buffalo Mozzarella Cheese made in Woodstock, VT. Another place of interest is the Granite Mines in Barre. The Presidential Range in New Hampshire should not be missed!! Take the auto drive to Mt. Washington. We were only able to go 4 of the 8 miles due to snow and ice overnight. In addition drive the Franconia Notch which during peak leaf time was magnificent! And yes, the Kangamagus Hwy. Good luck on your New England Trip and happy camping to you.
