We live in Lancaster County, PA and have a family of 3. We like to travel and am always on a budget thus prefer to stay at cabins that have full kitchens as we prepare alot of meals ourselves. We would love recommendations on where to go with these accomodations in mind as well as places of local interest nearby that aren't too expensive. Because of our work schedules we can usually only get away for the weekend and don't like to drive more then 2 hours one way. We would love to visit the Poconos area but are not familiar with what's up there. Suggestions for a family w/out a camper on a budget?

I would recommend the Shadow Brook Campground in Cooperstown New York. Great, highly rated campground with great cabins and the Baseball Hall of Fame, Glimmerglass State Park on Lake Otsego and the Farmer's Museum are both nearby. About a 5 hour drive through some beautiful country from where you live.

Here is a couple. Mount Vista and Otter Lake. Both close to E Strasbourg. Flea markets, candle factory's, micro brewery's. Otter lake has a fishing lake. There are quite a few campgrounds in the area. This website should help. http://www.800poconos.com/places-to-stay/c...CFbQNOgodSnMAbA
1000 Is. New York might be to far, but it has a beautiful state park with cabins overlooking the St Lawrence River. It's Wellesly Is State Park. Just get on Rt. 81n. It will take you right to it. Boat tours of the islands and Boldt Castle. Go Kart track. Boat rentals. Antque Boat Museum.
