Best Route To Lake Tahoe

    I'm in Jackson Ca. and am leaving for lake Tahoe and have heard different opinions on the best route to take. I'm leaning towards route 88 since it is closest but worry about the downhill legs and towing a 5th. I'm wondering if route 50 would be better. I've never been on either route so could use some advice.

    I've driven Hwy 50 a few times but never with a trailer. There are a couple of steep inclines but as I recall, the road is wide (two lanes in either direction) so I'd go with that.

    I have seen fivers on both those routes.
