I just saw an ad for condoms on this site. This site never had this kind of advertising. Can we have some discretion on the ads?

I don't think the site owner can control the ads. But if you're using Chrome or Firefox it's pretty easy to block all of them with any of several ad blocking extensions. I happen to use Ad Guard but there are quite a few.

I've got Firefox which came with AdBlockPlus on the last update. I still got the condom ad. Plus, I am finding that AdBlockPlus sometimes interferes with logging onto this site. I have had to work arounds.

You can "train" Ad Block to block ads that it might otherwise miss. As I recall I think you had to right click on the Ad Block icon.

I checked with higher management, and they assure me that condom ads should not be on this site. Also we do have a bit of control over the ads that are displayed, and we will do what we can to keep these off our site. However, it does take a while to get them stopped (sort of like those annoying phone solicitations). If you see any others please let us know.

I use Firefox and AdBlock Plus and never see any ads at all on any site I use.

BTW I used to use Ad Block Plus until someone showed me that AdGuard uses far less memory and results in faster browser response. I'm using it with Chrome, there's probably a Firefox equivalent.

Ads are served up based on a number of parameters, including your past browsing history, your location, keywords of a page you might be viewing and a few other tings - google knows a lot!

We can make requests to block specific content and routinely do but sometimes unwanted ads still slip through. If you see an ad that is not appropriate for the site please let us know and we'll do our level best to have it removed. Those requests take a couple of days sometimes for google to process and we'll need the url of the ad. We've already submitted a request to block the condom ad.

Dido on the AdBlockPlus comments. Would also suggest downloading Ghostery.

I find on many sites that the ads are based on your history so if you search for a new truck you get Ford ads, for new camping gear then you get camping ads, etc. not sure if this site is the same but the ads you get are based on where you go on the web.

Maybe those ads are meant to protect us from what we get at some of those really low rated campgrounds...:D

It's like working next to the air compressor. It's there, there's noise but you don't hear it.
