I'm just curious what the Campground Reviews policy on having reviews posted in other languages? if you look at the reviews for this campground, the 4th one down is written in French....

    https://campgrounds.rvlife.com/regi...glen-motorcoach-and-rv-park-771#review_601836

I dont have a big issue with it, but the narrative info would be useless to most users of this site.

Just a thought, could the admins add a note below the original text, saying Translated:....and then post the same info in English?

    thanks,
    chris g.

Thanks for calling this to our attention. The language of this website is English, and while we welcome reviews from members who speak a different language, the review must be in English.

I, like many others, am not in the least bit prejudice towards those that speak and.communicate in languages other than English but on a forum such as this where English is the language most used and read, it's just common sense that a foreign language is not "appropriate" when posting reviews or taking part on the forum. I would think that a person who speaks in a language other than English would be intelligent enough to know and understand? Then again perhaps not...

the only thing i wonder about is, what about reviews for campgrounds in Canada and Mexico? there are some provinces in Canada where they get "sticky" about only speaking French.

As this site grows, there may be reviewers who are native to Mexico, and primarily or only speak spanish. I think having a provision to post reviews in the native language and Engilsh might prove useful.

    just my 2 cents.

I did some more checking and found where this member has submitted 40 reviews making them a valued member, and I think it is a shame that the spent time and effort submitting reviews that many, if not most, of our member are unable to benefit from. I am not opposed to having reviews in other languages as long as the review is also posted in English. But I would also want the reviewer to submit the English translation, and as you said, there are good translator programs out there to help reviewers accomplish this. All that said, the decision to allow foreign language reviews, with or with out a translation, is the decision of this website's owner.

Excellent point but doing so may lead tp a bigger problem when other RVers who speak languages other than English and French ask that those reviews/posts be translated also. Next thing, the person who speaks only French, asks that a review posed in Spanish, German, or any other number of languages, have it translated into French. Kinda-sorta opens up a real "can of worms". Great idea we are discussing IF it can be made to work,,, Just my two cents on this subject...:)

In Chrome, a simple right click lets me select an English translation of text in nearly any other language.

Would need the translation feature for sure, if only to catch spam postings.

My next question is..what about the person who speaks only French and is looking at a review written in Danish, and so on. Can Chrome translate any given language into any other given language? Just askin', not trying to make any waves here..........

And all of that is why it is easier to just say reviews must be submitted in English.
