We just purchased a tiny camper that only requires electric and had the fantasy I guess that we'd be able to do some camping in the winter time. However, I am having a really hard time finding or seeing any campgrounds that are open year around. Anyone have any experiences or insight?

It might be helpful if you would let everyone know whereabouts you are located and in what areas you plan on tossing the anchor out in, etc. Welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy many really nice trips in your new camper.................

I actually can’t believe I left that out! We live in northern NJ.

Check around the various ski areas. There are usually one or more parks with at least limited sites available during the winter for skiers. They may not have water or sewer available, but electric shouldn't be a problem.

Canaan Valley Resort state park in Davis, WV. I'm pretty sure the RV sites are open in winter, but may not have water (gets really cold there due to the elevation). The park has a resort hotel with 3 restaurants in it. The nearest town, Davis, is very small but has a bunch of cute little places to eat, a small grocery store, and some other shops. There are no city-type shopping centers unless you go all the way to Oakland, MD where there is a 24 hour Super Walmart (no malls), about a half hour drive. Also in Davis is another state park, Blackwater Falls, but the campground is closed in winter. However, the falls are breathtaking when everything is snow and ice.

The place my family is in talks to buy, is open in winter with some limitations (water to RV sites may be off in deep winter, office may be closed but bathrooms connected to lodge would have water). It is in WV. I can't give the name until I know whether or not the sale goes through, but regardless of ownership, it is/will be open in winter. It is about 10f warmer than Canaan and won't be as likely to have snow. It is probably about an hour closer to NJ. But it is in the woods, isolated and quiet, nearest town/stores/restaurants about 15 miles away.

CT Aces High is open all year. Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun Casinos are near by if you feel like loosing money :D

NH Meredith Woods lots of sking and snowmobiling in the area. They have a nice indoor heater pool thats perfact for taking the winter chill off

You will probably find a few campgrounds open in northern Jersey this time of year, but not many. We just came off a weekend camping at a KOA near Hershey.

One thing to note, call before booking, to make sure they have things you need. Last year we booked a KOA near BWI Airport. We were going to be flying out in the early AM and back late the same night, so decided to camp close to the airport to make it easy. The KOA website showed that the campground was open but never mentioned that the facilities were not, namely the shower house. Our little camper has no toilet! We had to go down the road to the Wawa to use the restroom.

    Needless to say, lesson learned!

Going to winter camping but the right gear is very important to bring with you. You'll need a sturdy tent, a warm sleeping bag, two sleeping pads and a stove suitable for cold temperatures. Bring warmer clothing, midweight base layers, puffy coat, waterproof jacket and also propane indoor heater which is very helpful in camping and help to keep warm.

When going out for camping in winter in your RV is such a fun thing to do. It would be great if you can just let others know where you live so that they recommend you good places for camping.
Also, it is recommended to get the equipment like a tent, warm sleeping bag, warm clothes and also a tankless water heater with yourself.
