Is there a quick easy way to tell if a given park will take reservations?

Offhand I'd say just check the park's website as that will normally give you an answer to your question. Many parks and campgrounds take reservations either by phone or online and both are quick and efficient. You need to use the information given by each park to make your reservations and with the way many parks and campgrounds have been full up during COVID times, it's wise to make your reservations prior to hitting the road or you may find yourself dry camping in a Walmart parking lot. Welcome to the forum and be sure to post reviews of the places you stay at over on the flip side of this forum page..............

    Safe travels, BankShot..............(aka Terry)

I agree with Banks comment, call ahead, or check the campground website for reservation policies.

Also gauge the need for reservations with the area and time of year if you will be in. Depending on popularity, you won't need a reservation at all, but some areas will need reservations days, months or even a year in advance.

Hi again Bill..........Just to give you an example of what Fitz said above, one place we go to every year in either July or August is so popular that in order to get one of our favorite ocean sites we make our reservations on the day we leave for the following year. A couple of years back we weren't sure if we would be going there the following year, and waited until Jan when we were sure we were going. The place was booked full for July, August and Sept. other than for a couple of inner sites that had no views of anything but RVs in all four directions. We ended up having to book a site in Oct and by that time the area was a lot colder and had several days of rain while we were there. Other parks and campgrounds my not be that heavily booked during the summer season but it's best to book as far in advance as you can especially if you are "picky:rolleyes:" like us about the sites you wish to stay in. You can always cancel if you decide not to go and most parks do have a refund policy if you notify them that you won.t be arriving on the dates booked. Some do have a small cancellation fee so be sure to ask what their cancellation policy is................

Hi Terry, similar for us on a water side site on Lake Ontario that we book every year except for the past few years when on check in and we requested the site for the next year they had already booked the site to someone alse. Campground is all first come first serve.. no holding for any repeat customers. What we have been doing lately because of this is pushing back our reservations back 53 weeks for the following year but last year everything was booked out completely for the summer. We usually go with 5 other families so this year we solved the problem by switching with 2 of the other families from water side sites to interior sites.

    --------------------------------------------------------
This past couple of years since COVID caught us all off guard have been a boon to the RV community due to so many deciding to give RVing a try, etc. Even with the increase in rates at most all RV parks and campgrounds, spaces got grabbed up quickly and still are to a large degree. Thankfully after traveling the circuits we travel in, we've gotten to know which parks require reservations far in advance in order to get in when we want to, etc. It's almost like a chess game and one needs to try and figure out what the opponent/s moves are going to be when it comes time to hit the road. Me thinks this 'surge' will gradually come to an end as many will be selling off their RVs and reverting back to their old travel methods now that gas prices have gone thru the roof..........

Keep on keeping on Mike, Terry............(aka BankShot)
