We've been to Florida for the winter months (Jan-Mar) and always find fun places to explore and know our limitations about where to go and find the warmest weather during the winter months. Last winter was crazy warm everywhere so we certainly don't anticipate it'll be that way again! We are, however considering making the trek from Louisville to San Diego via a southern route that will give us some places to explore along the way. I suppose going Route 10 west is the traditional way to go...but we always like to travel those 'less traveled' avenues. We pull a 25 ft travel trailer and will have our two dogs with us. Would love to hear any experiences you've had with perhaps a similar trip. I'm also very interested in hearing comments about how safe it is to go into Mexico these days. We have our passports and might consider a trip across the border. Thanks! Nancy and Louie near Louisville, KY

There are several great places to explore which get you off of the interstate routes if you make that trip. Actually, I-10 has very little right along the way, but head south and check out Big Bend Natl. Park while in Texas. Going on west and a bit to the north of your route is Carlsbad Caverns NP. West of Tuscon drop south and visit Organ Pipe Cactus Natl. Monument. Once you cross into California, don't miss Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

Sorry to be so long responding...we recently sold an older 1989 Scotty trailer that we loved but had to let go :( Finalized that last week so now we can focus more on our travel plans. Thanks so much for your suggestions for places to check out along the way. We are saying 'when' instead of 'if' so we've moved farther along in our discussions. Thanks again!
