Hey all - interested to know how folks deal with leaving their pets in their camper while out exploring. We do have a great pup which we have confirmed with neighbors - she doesn't bark and comments are, "we didn't know you had a dog". My question is - how do you appropriately tell a neighbor, "Your dog barked the whole time you were gone" - or do you? Do you just tell management and leave as is?
Most parks have a "do not leave pets unattended" rule. if you think the park will listen and enforce their rules, i'd mention it to the management.
Both replies above are spot on IMHO. A negative approach usually leads to a negative result as nobody likes to be approached in that manner. You can usually telll what type folks your neighbors are and that will tell you whether a "friendly" approach on the subject will suffice and resolve the problem. If you feel it won't then contacting management would be the way to resolve the issue. I would imagine there are other RVers nearby that are being bothered by the barking dog also and one of them may have already contacted management about it. Hope it all works out for everyone. BTW, welcome to the forum and safe travels... Regards, BankShot........(aka Terry)
Nobody cares to have a barking dog in a rv next to them when the owners are not there. My first stop is to them when they return to inform them that the dog/dogs were not happy to be left for the hours they were. If they continue next stop is the park manager.
Anonymous note taped on the door. That gives you plausible deniability and avoids conflict. When that doesn’t work, and it likely won’t, time to involve the park. When that doesn’t work, and it’s a fifty fifty at best, time to either accept it or move, either to another spot in the park, or down the road.
well we have a friend that camps with us & his dog has separation anxiety because when he doesn’t see’s his owner he barks like mad. Drives you nuts. Tried to be kind and mention maybe you can ask your vet if they could offer any guidance what might him not bark so much. Then get mad at you.. So then when we just started to notify the park
Hi, most people who has dogs aren’t really the problem & are responsible dog owners it’s the small yapping dogs that never stops till the owner gets home. (Separation anxiety) Best results are talk with a Camp host or Park attendant or a Park Ranger making his rounds. Save your self getting cussed or worse. HAPPY CAMPING.
From a park owner, here is what happens in a short stay destination park when you complain to management about a barking dog. Day one: dog barks constantly while owners are out touring for the day. Both you and the park staff take note. Owner is notified when they return and they are very apologetic, claim they had no idea and promise it won’t happen again. Dog is quiet because they are there. Day two: owners again leave to tour and dog barks excessively. Guests and staff are rightfully upset. Staff reviews reservation and realize they are leaving the next morning. Owners return and park management knows from last night dog will be quiet since owners are home. Rather than have a confrontation, park decides to not ask them to leave over repeated violations knowing problem will be gone next morning. Park makes note on customer record to not accept return visit in future. Happens all the time.
In the many years we traveled with our dog before she passed away at 14, we only had one complaint about her barking while we were away from our site and she was left inside the RV. We came back from a grocery run, and while we were unloading the toad, a camp host came over and said the woman from the site across the road from us complained about our dog barking while we were away. We were surprised, because she never been a problem before. As we were talking, the woman that complained came over and demanded to know what the host was going to do about the "racket" the dog made. Then the woman from the site next to us came over as well, and the complainer said to ask her, that she had to of heard the dog too. The host looked at the neighbor, and she said, "Yes, the dog was barking. She barked every time your kid ran over and pounded on the front of their motorhome!" She said other than that they wouldn't have known the dog was even there. The complainer left in a huff and wouldn't even look at us when she was outside when we walked by. Her kid stayed on their own site too. Her husband did come over and apologize when he got back later.
