We will be in Branson in May and would like to go to Arkansas, Louisana and Mississippi on our way home to Georgia in the Atlanta area. We have never camped in any of these states. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to stay and what to see in these states. We like to be near restaurants and have sightseeing day trips. Also would like a campground that has planned activities and of course dog friendly. The Hot Springs Arkansas area looks interesting, has anyone been there? Thanks!
What parts of LA would you like to see? We have been in all parts. What type of parks would you like to camp in? Remember all food in southern LA is great. Lots to see and things to tour in state. A little LaGniappe. Merci Beaucoup

Do you know any places in Mississippi near 20? We enjoy parks that are close to good food and things to see! Thanks, Diane
DFF, To stay on I-20 will cut down number of places to stay. In Shreveport look at the KOA , get off I-20 at exit 3. This will take you to the Flying-J on left side, travel on east up a small hill and KOA will be on left side. It is OK for the night. You have tons of places to eat east of KOA plus a mall or shopping center complex. Next place if you like the woods will be Lake Bistineau State Park off hwy 163 east of Bossier City. Places to eat would be back in Bossier City. In Vicksburg look at Diamond Jacks RV Park. This park is off exit 1A about 1/4 of mile north of I-20 and on right side, drive very slow or you will miss the driveway. Park set off down a hill and you can not see it from road. Signs mark drive but people miss them. Casino food was good but best is in an Annabelle home in Vicksburg. Open for lunch and dinner, people in RV park will know the place and tell you how to find it. That will get you back into AL if you stay on I-20.

If we will be so limited to stay that close to I-20, maybe we should expand to under 100 miles from I-20 so that we could have a better choice of places to stay and things to do. The place in Vicksburg looks good. Is there sighseeing in the area? We will probably do southern Louisana when we make our trip to Texas, possibly next year. If you can give me some information for this trip that would be great. We would be leaving from Atlanta probably after the first of the year. I will let my son (Mastercraft) know and he can look at what you have suggested to help me plan the trip, he does a great job on trip planning. We travel some with his family. Diane
I can't help you with Louisiana or Mississippi but If you're going south from Branson, I would suggest two parks in Arkansas that you might enjoy. They are both state parks and have full hookups. The first one from Branson is Devils Den State Park, located south of Fayeteville off I-540. This is a very nice park located right in the middle of the Boston Mountains, great hiking, caving and beautiful scenery. The next park is Petit Jean state park located near Morrilton. This park is on one of the highest mountains in Arkansas and overlooks the Arkansas river valley. You can easily access it off of I-40 as you travel east from Ft. Smith towards Little Rock. Enjoy!!!
Diane, So (Mastercraft) is your son. We have sent information to each other on RV problems over the years. On trip to southern LA next year, send me a off line e-mail on what amount of days you wish to spend and what parts you would like to tour. Keep in mind that all of LA is cold in Jan. Better time are the spring months. On I-20 trip you can stay on I-20 and be OK. We tour back roads more than "I" roads to see towns and places people live and work in. We have been on roads so small that it was hard to get around, no road left to ride on. In Vicksburg check out downtown (old homes), old county court house, Vicksburg battlefield, USS Cairo (old iron side ship), numbers of Annabelle homes, Riverfront park, and Nat. Military Park (very old). If you have any money at end of the day stop by one of the casino's. Great views of river from town, town sets up very high off river. I remember a day trip over into LA to see a very old cotton plantation (about 35 miles or so) people at RV park or the information center in town will have better information. Information from JWB1787 is also good. Check this web site and you will see places are rated high.

There are several that I would not go back to, but these are the one’s I would: Ruston, LA – Lincoln Parish Park I-20 exit 86 (on a small lake) Clinton, MS – Springridge I-20 exit 36 (some road noise) Morton, MS – Roosevelt State Park I-20 exit 77 (on a lake) Meridan, MS –Toomsuba KOA I-20 exit 185 (quiet KOA) -Twiltley Branch Corp Park – I-20 & Hwy 19 (50A service available) Tupelo, MS - Tombigee State Park I-20 (on a lake) If Diamond Jack used to be the Isle of Capri RV Park, I wasn’t impressed when I stayed there. But if it has changed hands, it could be much improved. It is closed to I-20, tho. You might want to thing about a day trip down part of the Natchez Trace Parkway if you're going to stay near Jackson. Also will warn you that I-20 in and on both sides of Jackson is a lousy ride in a motor home and absolutely horrible in a 5W. For your other trip from Texas, I’d suggest the Grand Casino RV Park in Marksville, LA. That one I’d rate a 10. There are several of us on the website who can give you some suggestions on Texas when the planning for that commences.
