Once again we are trying to pick the experienced minds of the group. We are planning our 09 trip to the coast and have decided on North or South Carolina. We are looking for the best ocean front campground we can find. We have a big rig (40 foot fifth wheel) and do not like sites that are close. The more amenities the better but we only must have electricity and water. We do not have children but do have two dogs. We also are not fond of the parking lot campgrounds that we have been seeing. We like some trees for shade and privacy. Thanks for the help.

Welcome aboard! In the past I would have suggested Barefoot RV park in Myrtle Beach. One of the best ocean front RV resorts I have ever camped at, but alas it is now going to be an ocean front condo! Great Loss. There are a couple of nice campgrounds on the other banks, but there are few trees. Good luck
In the Outer Banks, NC you'll be lucky if you find a tree taller than your RV in alot of places, especially if you want to camp "on the beach". On the beach camping is available in a couple of places along the outer banks like in Rodanthe, NC there are a couple of nice campgrounds but there is'nt much to do around them you have to travel either north or south on RT. 12 The National Park CG in Frisco is nice, but no hook ups. you can use a generator. There is a nice breeze up high. Paved sites and roads. Cape Hatteras NP is the same as Frisco but basically flat. On Ocracoke Island, by way of the free ferry boat ride is another NP, No hookups, cold showers, flush toilets......bring your own shade!!! and some (alot) mosquito repellant. Beautiful beaches, great sunsets, good suntans. The village of Hatteras is a wonderful fishing area with one campground, Hatteras Sands. Great place to stay and they have full hookups, bathhouse, club house, and an awesome pool.

The beach is such a popular place its hard to find a CG on the beach that isnt the parking lot style. Ocean Lakes is a nice one but its pretty large. They keep up with it well but privacy isnt something you'll get a lot of. If you find a park like what you are talking about make sure to post it in here, I think a lot of people would love to know where to find it.
Myrtle Beach State Park is absolutely beautiful and they have sites to accommodate up to 40 footers. They have electric and water and they have sites that offer shade and the breeze from the ocean is always refreshing.
In our opiniun Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach is the best. It has huge sites, 50 amp and some in the back have some shade however we like to be as up close as possible. Spring water is also available to fill up in your containers which we like. Bring your golf cart or rent one. We have always had a great time there and have never had a problem with reservations or service. We even had an issue with our a/c the last time and called their rv service dept. They came out accessed the problem and were very helpful. You do need to check on dogs on the beach rules. After Sept.15 which is the time frame we go is when they are allowed on the beach anytime. We have tried PirateLand and Lakewood and much prefer Ocean Lakes. I am sure you won't be sorry.

I agree that Hunting Island is a great park for nature lovers and beach lizards. It has fewer trees than Hunting Island, but you are only a few minutes away from the attractions of Myrtle Beach. As the sites are far from each other privacy is not really an issue here even though there is less vegetation between the sites.
