We are planning to spend a month in the Orlando area this winter and have looked at many campgrounds/resorts online but none seem particularly inviting. Does anyone have a GOOD recommendation of where to stay in this area. I've read a lot of "where not to stay" but haven't heard much positive. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Does anyone have a GOOD recommendation of where to stay in this area. I've read a lot of "where not to stay" but haven't heard much positive. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks! "Best" to one person may not be what another person is looking for. It would be helpful to our members if you would tell us what kind of park you want to be at. Do you want to be on paved, manicured sites or out in the woods? What amenities do you want? Do you want to participate in planned activities or to be at a quiet location? Do you want a huge resort or more of a "mom and pop" place? Also, when you read reviews, keep in mind that the reviewer's comments will be based on whether or not he got the camping experience he was looking for. If he said the sites were gravel and there were lots of trees that dropped leaves on his RV and the smoke from the campfires bothered his allergies and then he gave the placed a 1 and said don't stay here, he obviously did not get the experience he wanted. This does not necessarily make the park bad, and if someone is looking for a rustic camping experience, he may think this is the "best" park ever. So giving a little more information will improve your chances of getting replies.
Yes " best " to one is not " best " to someone else. With that understanding IMHO the top dog in the Orlando area would be Disneys Ft Wilderness. Although it's a bit pricey it is a real nice park We have been there a few times and enjoyed our stay. The campers seasonal decorations are unmatched. If you choose this park enjoy your stay.
I've not visited it, but I've heard good things about Christmas RV park in Christmas, FL. It's about halfway between Orlando and the Atlantic coast, so you're convenient to both. It's convenient to highways, so you can get just about anywhere easily....well, as easily as Orlando traffic allows.
Without knowing your preferences when camping we can only recommend spots we have stayed. While Fort Wilderness is very nice it is pricey and sometimes completely booked up. Lots of stuff to do even without going to any of the parks. If you like cars and old time stores then Tropical Palms is the place to go. The campground is walking distance to Old Town which has car shows on Friday and Saturday nights. At the end of the show all cars cruise down the main street where you get to see all of the cars in their glory. If you like out door activities there are many parks in the Ocala area that has access to the spring feed rivers. Spring feed rivers stay at a temperature of 72 degrees all year and are mostly crystal clear.
koa in Davenport Fl. close to all major shopping and away from the chaos of Orlando and Disney Traffic but still only about a half hour away from Disney depending on traffic of course I-4 to the route 27 exit I think exit 55 but double check? continue right off ramp and Koa sits behind Bob Evans restaurant good luck most campground sites are full because snowbirds like the warm weather in the winter. If full I suggest looking on I-75 for a campground from Jennings to Tampa. Good Luck
