We are looking to be in Albuquerque in mid June and are looking for a campground. I have narrowed it down to a few campgrounds: Albuquerque Central KOA American RV Park Enchanted Trails Camping Resort High Desert RV Park Palisade RV Park I have read through the reviews (except Palisades as it is not listed) and they look pretty good. I am leaning away from the KOA as it seems to be quite a bit more expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions about which park would be my best bet? Some amenities would be nice (i.e. pool, playground) and pet friendly is a must. Also, does anyone know if any of these parks takes a Good Sam doscout? Any info would be appreciated.

Check out American Rv Park. We stayed there during the Balloon fiesta last year in October. They have a free cont'l breakfast and high speed computers to use at no cost. THeir hot tub area is great in the evening. Seem like all of the employees have been there for awhile as they are helpful and friendly as seem to enjoy interacting with the guests.
Wolfpack, I also would vote for American RV Park and yes park is a Good Sams park. Park has a heated pool, close to downtown, Flying-J couple miles away, free continental breakfast, instant phones, and I think pets are OK here. Parks around Albuquerque are on poor side to me. Also note "I-40 is a 24/7 noise box".
We have stayed in Albuquerque about 5-6 times, but it has been about 3 years since our last visit. We have stayed at the KOA Central and think the reviews on this web site are just about right. It was OK for us. I'm sure they had a pool, but we didn't use it. We have also stayed at the Stagecoach Stop RV Resort which is on the northern edge of the city in Rio Rancho. "Resort" is pushing it a little, but it was nice when we were there. However, more recent reviews have talked about it going downhill. It was definitely prettier than the KOA. The sites were concrete but the turning space was a little tight for a big rig. My biggest complaint was the showers. They were very nice and clean, but there was no place to put your towel, toiletries or clothes inside the shower stall--no hook or bench. I mentioned this in the office, but they had not changed anything the next time we stayed there. We also drove through the KOA in Bernalillo but thought the KOA Central was better. There is a nice looking state park in the Bernalillo area (Coronado, I think), but we didn't stay there because our RV was longer than they could accommodate. We also drove through another park on the west side of the city located on the north side of I-40. I think that was Enchanted Trails. (I know it was not American.) Their web site pictures look nicer than what we remember on the drive through. The next time we are there we plan to try the American Park because we have never stayed there and it sounds very nice. I also heard that the Sandia Casino was going to put in an RV park, but I don't know if this has happened or even if it was true. If you have never been to Albuquerque be sure to drive along the Old Route 66. There are lot of historic places, and the Route 66 Diner is great. Be sure to go to old town where there are lots of neat shops. Also take the tram up to the top of Sandia peak. The view is fantastic. There is a restaurant up there, but we have not eaten at it. I think it is fairly expensive. There is also a neat drive up to Sandia Peak, but be aware that it does not go to the same place as the restaurant. Hope you have a nice trip.
Campgrounds in and around Albuquerque are, as a rule, a scroungy lot but, overall, I think you will find the American Campground the best. We stayed there and visited the others while in town. We would definitely choose American over the others.
Like it or not I have to agree with Beastdriver & I'll go a step further. In general I find desert parks some what grubby looking. The Stagecoach Stop is pretty nice though the new owner is an idiot. American Park is Ok But the one on the north side of 40 is the pits. We have stayed at KOA in Bernalillo. I owe them. They got me a site when none where available. Hidden Valley is OK if you have a small rig. IT IS TIGHT! By the way Old Town is cool and their zoo is pretty nice.
On RV park at Sandia Casino, that would be nice. You can spent night in parking lot if you wish. I sent e-mail to Casino last year and ask if they had any plans to put in RV parking with hook up's and answer was NO. So stay in east side parking lot for free if you wish. Casino people told me you can park as long as you like or to your money runs out. Play big bucks and this will help cut down your time in parking lot.

I would like to thank everyone who responded. We have decided that we are going to stay at the American RV Park. It sounds like a decent park. I have called with some questions and it looks like our dogs will not be a problem. I will try to let you know how it turned out when we get back from there.
We've stayed at American RV many times (at least one stay a year for the past 12 years) as it is probably the best in Albuquerque. We usually ask for pull thrus stating we have slides, one on each side. Nearly everytime we have to get another site as the one assigned will not accept the slides. Also we always have to unhook to clear the road ways. Last year I felt so sorry for an older couple as they couldn't use either slide but as they said they were there for only overnight and could make do, one sleeping on the sofa. Parks of this size and rate should have WiFi.
We recently stayed at American RV (we had in the past and was satisfied) and the trip was very disappointing. The pool and hot tub was closed, because they said they didn't have the staff to keep it open. But they charged the full rate... imagine that! There is a no frills park next door at half the price. If it's only for overnight, I'm going there. Oh and the half price park had free wifi and American didn't have that OR cable. I don't kinow anyone who likes to set up satellite just for 1 night. American has the idea that "campers" don't want cable tv.
