Greetings all. We are seeking a campground in New Jersey for the summer of 2012, ideally in the Gateway region but Shores would also do. Things we NEED in a campground: trees, intimacy, cleanliness. Things we DON'T need: karaoke night, a waterslide and so on. It's okay if such things are offered, but that's really not why we go camping. We'd like a campground within easy access of the beach. We have a medium-sized pop up trailer. All suggestions are appreciated. I can be reached at jblegault@gmail.com Thanks a lot.
We like the campground in Bayville,NJ. Cedar Creek Campground. It is close to Seaside Heights, with a boardwalk and the ocean. Island Beach State park is just below Seaside. They run tubing and canoe trips, out of the campground, down Cedar Creek. It is part of the Pine Barrens. They kept the campground clean. Pool is nice and so is the hot tub. There are also quite a few down in Cape May. We stayed at both the Beachcomber and Cape Isle. We didn't like the Beachcomber and they turned Cape Isle into seasonal only. There are a bunch more to choose from. The Wildwood Crest beach is unbelievable. One of the best I've been to. Wildwood has a boardwalk, as does Cape May. Cape May's is small and more suited for browsing and shopping. Port Republic had a nice campgound also. Blueberry Hill. Close to AC and the beach in Ocean View. It's been awhile since we've been there. They kept everything clean and has some nice sites in the trees.
We camp in the Cape may area every year and usually stay at Holly Shores in Rio Grande which is midway between Wildwood and Cape May. We have also stayed at the campground down the street which I can't think of the name at this moment maybe Seashore .... Both are nice. Last year they redid the pool area and converted it to saltwater. There are lots of activities for kids but no waterslide or Karaoke that I have every seen. They have had pony rides and a magic show during the week. Also can consider the state campgrounds through DEP. There are many and can accommodate RVs but no hookups. The ones we have stayed at have dump stations. If you want quiet in NJ camp at one of them during the week . Nice and quiet.
Turkey Swamp is a county park, and offers camping. The have electric and water hookups. It's located not far from Freehold, NJ. Campers there also get a free pass to a local beach (don't remember which one). The downside is, there is no swimming facilities at the campground. It's nice, the sites are pretty private, it's nice and claen, and it's relatively cheap there as well. They offer various activities like a hayride, and such, but no karaoke. If you are military or retired military, Sea Girt has a very small campground one base, just feet from the ocean.
