In 2002, we had "overnighted" once on our way South and once on our way back at the Meskwakie Casino on US30 just west of Toledo/Tama, IA. They have two areas for RV parking.......a gravel lot , and a grass field about 300 yards south of the above lot. Both areas had 20 and 30A hookups, plus a couple of H20 sources in the South lot, and they were free. It used to be a nice overnight stop.......decent food, gaming if U want, and a place to hide should big storms approach. We stopped there on our way back from TX a week or so ago, and found the gravel lot has no electric service, and, naturally, the south field was "full." The south field has approx 6 power poles with a total of maybe 12 outlets. Luckily, it was a mild night, and our 3 neighbors in the North lot didn't run any generators. What steamed me was, I had spoken to a Meskquakie person a couple days earlier, and no mention was made of this power outage. Found out later, it has been out for some time. The grassy south field was wet, with lotsa holes, so I doubt I would have parked there even if there was an opportunity. Smoke (from cancer sticks) inside the casino was about the same as in London at the height of the Luftwaffe "blitz." All in all, a big disappointment....... We hit the road early the next morning., and won't be back. ---Dave---
Dave, We have never been to this Canino and never will now. We use Canino RV parks around the USA and have found ones we have been in to be great. The price in most cases is less that other parks close by. All have been very clean, safe, and free of problems. Most are set up for big rigs with 50 amps service. Some give you half off to eat in Canino. We do not drop any money into the Canino system we only spend time in park to tour. We have used Canino across the USA with very good luck.
We're in Iowa now and have found that Iowa has a great park system operated by the Iowa County Conservation Boards. You can obtain a directory at some of the larger parks(for $3-4, sometimes free depending on the park) or you can contact the board in Ankeny, Ia and they'll mail you one for $8(shipping included). Or find parks here: http://george.ecity.net/iaccb According to the directory in Tama County near the casino you stopped at they list the Otter Creek Lake&Park. 6 mi. northeast of Toledo. Our experience so far is that these parks are beautiful, clean and very reasonably priced. So add them to your resource base.
