We are currently RVing up in Whistler, BC, Canada and will be heading this friday to Victoria via the ferry from Tsawassen. But to get to the Ferry, it looks as though we must drive right through downtown Vancouver. Has anyone done this trip before? If so we would greatly appreciate any advice on alternative routes to avoid downtown Vancouver.

Why take the Tsawassen ferry? There is a BC ferry terminal at Horseshoe Bay that is closer to Whistler and avoids going through Vancouver. If you really need to get to Tsawassen then take Hwy 99 south to just past Horseshoe Bay and you will see the Trans Canada Hwy 1 starts. Take Hwy 1 over the Ironworkers Memorial bridge which will take you into the eastern part of the City of Vancouver. Take Boundary down to Marine Drive from where you can head over the Knight Street or Oak Street bridges through Richmond and join up again with Hwy 99 south to Delta where you turn off to Hwy 17 to the Tsawassen ferry terminal. Hope you get this in time. :D

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately we didn't see it until we had arrived in Victoria. We followed the Ferry signs and headed right through the center of the City. We lucked out on the traffic--after morning rush hour and before the noon rush--or it would have been a lot worse. Your route would have been better.
