Why on earth would we ever want to leave this beautiful spot of the planet, you might ask? We get that question all the time and the answer is: To do something different then come home and love where we live even more! We purchased our little Class C 3 years ago now and have enjoyed several trips. One to the Pinnacles State Park; one to Pahrump/ Las Vegas/ Lake Havasu; one to Napa/ Clearlake; one to Big Sur / Santa Cruz and SEVERAL to a lovely campground 45 minutes up the coast from us on Hwy 1, which is now closed due to landslides. But probably what we have enjoyed the most is getting up in the morning (we are both retired) packing a sandwich and a bottle of wine and driving 8 miles north of the house on Hwy 1 to a pull-out, rolling out the awning, throwing out the folding chairs and enjoying the day watching the ocean pretending we are tourists! Worth every penny! This next week we will be brave and embark upon a trip north to the Russian River, then on up to the Redwoods and on into Oregon and Washington, seat of the pants style. I will keep reading the Forum for campground recommendations as we wander!
The drive down highway 1 is spectacular. You do live in a nice area. Variety is the spice of life though. RVers are lucky to have the means to get out and enjoy the country. We are on the verge of retiring and looking forward to selling our stick and brick in trade for a long leisurely "cross country" tour. Darrell
If by chance you pass thru Bodega Bay on your way north and have the time to toss out the anchor for a day or two by all means stop and enjoy that neat little town right on the ocean. We spent a really nice week there last year and stayed at the Bodega Bay RV park, just north of the town center a short ways and enjoyed both the park and the many shops and little cafes and restaurants close by. What you said about just finding a nice spot to watch the waves crashing against the shore along with a sandwich and a glass (or three) of wine is what it's all about. Enjoy your trip and be sure to do some reviews of the places you stay at along the way................ Regards, BankShot..............(aka Terry)
