taking a vacation in june in a motorhome with kids. looking for a campground in pigeon forge/gatlinburg area that has a creek side sites. would like a campground that is big rig friendly and not so crowded, it does not have to be right in the middle pigeon forge or gatlinburg.
We stayed in this CG with a MH about 22 years ago when it was known as "Trout Creek Campground" We enjoyed it and it borders on the Smokies Natl. Park. At that time there was a hiking trail from the CG into the park. We enjoyed it then and there is a review of it on the review section of this site. This is a quiet, family oriented campground without alot of frills which add to the cost. It is on the Gatlinburg trolley route which offers many attractions in addition to being the gateway to the Smokey Mountain National Park. The campground was very clean and the staff was always friendly and helpful. The murmer of the nearby stream lulled us to sleep each night. We didn't want to leave! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel in June 2005.
We have stayed at Smokey Bear Campground and Liked it alot. The new owners had a egg breakfast for us on Sunday too. They have a nice area with a bunch of pullthrus and other back ins too. They have a pool and hottub and meeting room too. The owners are very attentive too.
Our rv club has stayed at several campgrounds in this area. If you don't mind driving out of town a little try "Adventure Bound". It is located out of Gatlinburg on hwy 321 south. They have sites on a stream and lots of things for the kids. This campground used to be called Crazy Horse.
We have camped in Townsend Tn. it is several miles away from Gatlinburg but is much quieter and the campground we stayed at was a great campground, on the river with very clean facilities and just a short way from Smokey mountain National Park. In case you hadn't seen if you go to the front page where you see the map of the usa and click on tennessee and then click on pigeon forge or gatlinburg ( yes these are reviews ) but most reviews have websites to the area campgrounds. I know as we are camping the area in july for 8 days celebrating our son's 10 th birthday. we are staying at creekside. Altough we haven't camped here yet so i cant say how it will be but they do answer emails also they have creekside sites heres is the website http://www.creeksidervpark.com/ photos gallery shows big rigs so i assume you'll be able to get in. We stayed at the creekside last year. The front desk people are very friendly and have a clean park. There are two things that we found bad, they have gravel drives that may be unlevel, depending on where you camp, we were on the creek side and also the sight are very close to one another, not much room inbetween each other. Oops, no trees either. If you can handle those things I think you will be very pleased. The trolly drives all the way through the park and the next stop for the trolly is Claybough's campgrounds, alot of shade and creek as well. We told some of our friends about this CG and they said it was really nice, but they still like staying at the KOA due to young grandchildren due to being close to Dollywood. Have a great time.
We go to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg quite a bit... Pigeon Forge... The KOA(Pigeon Forge) on Middle Creek Road(road behind main Parkway) is nice and close to everything. It is right beside Patriot Park where the Trolley Office is located...But it's a little pricey..Easy to get in and out of... Piegon Forge... Normally we stay at Clabough's RV Park..It is off the Parkway on Wears Valley Road about 2 miles, very clean. It has a Trolley stop inside the park. Kroger's is about a mile from the park and they also have a gas station/store on site... Inside the store is a small restrauant that has great sandwiches..Very Friendly staff. If you never been to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge expect heavy traffic...We never been up there when it was not busy....We have never stayed in Gatlinburg because of the traffic. Pigeon Forge is just easy to get in and out of....
Claybough's c/g and Rivers Edge are two very nice parks. They are both close into Pigeon Forge and offer trolley access. This is important if you do not tow a car. Be prepared to drive in some very congested traffic at nearly any time. It is a great place to visit.
Check out Little River Village Campground in Townsend, but over the "hill" from Gatlinburg. Creekside for rafting, pool, playgrounds, but quiet. Bike trail goes both sides of road all the way to Townsend. We are repeaters there in the Fall. Nice website.

[In the past 8 months used Creekview twice. Nice place and nice people. On time it was a Sunday night, they were closed. We drove through and happened to see the manager return from dinner. She said they had one spot; gave me the number and we were saved. None other available in the city and you can't park at Wal-Mart in Gatlinburg, even for an emergency. Phrg 34
We always stay at River Plantation in Sevierville, just a couple of miles out of Pigeon Forge on the Parkway. It is child friendly with two pools and a playground. The sites are large with concrete patios. There are river sites available. It is convenient to Dollywood, outlet shopping, and just a short drive down the Parkway to Gatlinburg. CREEKSIDE RV on Henderson Springs Rd in Pigeon Forge is the BEST. We really love it here. Owners are helpful and frinedly. Bathrooms are clean- 4 showers and 4 stalls, ceramic tiled. Beautiful handpainted pictures are painted on the bathroom windows and the radio is piped in the bathroom. LOTSof cable channels. Has internet access 24 hours a day in the laundry room. YOU WILL LOVE THIS PLACE. Its close to everything.
We have checked out many campgrounds in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg/Townsend area. We live close enough to make daytrips. If you have questions about specific campgrounds, I can give you my "opinion" on it..... We just returned from a week of camping in Townsend at the Little River Village Campground. The staff are great and really work hard to please the campers. They kept the place spotless at all times. The bathrooms were always spotless as well as the individual showers. The water was always hot. For us, driving back to the campground each day was relaxing. It can be really hectic/crazy at Dollywood and in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge. It is a beautiful drive back to the campground down Wears Valley Road. We enjoyed being close the the Cades Cove entrance of the park as well. The pool was open and very clean. There was too much rain/river to high.. to tube. Most of the sites were well shaded. Some were not though. We were there from a thursday to a thursday. The weekend was pretty full, but it was still very quiet in the campground. Once everyone left on Sunday, the 8 or so spots next to us were empty. The only downside that I could say about the campground is the closeness of the sites. However, that is a common with all the campgrounds in the area. We drove thru the rest of the campgrounds in the area surrounding Little River, and Little River still seemed to suit our needs best. We stayed at Riverside RV Park and Resort May 19 and 20th. The lots are large with a paved patio and picnic table. Little Pigeon river runs by the park. The people there are friendly and helpful. We have a 40 ft motor coach with 4 sides--no problems. We were in a pull-through and not on the river. The river sites are back-ins. I highly recommend this park. We will stay here again.
