I would appreciate hearing of any experience regarding Bay Colony RV in Dickinson and/or Space Center RV in League City regarding cleanliness of park, bathrooms etc., size of spaces (patio, table, concrete) & amenities such as cable Tv, modem connection at site (or Wi-Fi). Boardwalk RV Park in nearby Kemah, TX is very new, run by competent staff and all the facilities (when we visited last fall) we hospital clean. There are some good seafood restaurants within walking distance and a great many within a radius of a couple miles. Mostly large pull throughs with back-in sites on either side. There were no large trees then, and very little shade. We found it quiet at night, but the park had just opened when we visited and there were few sites occupied.
Kemah, TX is probably the most interesting part of the Houston area. Huge marina - large entertainment area - lots of restaurants. And reasonably close to the Space Center. Space Center RV park is an RV parking lot. Backs up to the busy interstate and very little distance between sites.
Thanks for asking for input. By know, you're probably having second thoughts. Let me add to the mix. My wife and I travel several times a year for a month at a time. We have a 30 ft. 5-wheel with double slides and tow with a Ford F-350 crew cab -- the REAL long pickup. If the lot is less than 60 ft. long, we are unable to disconnect and stay in front of the RV. Landscaping or narrow lots sometimes prohibit parking beside the rig. When we can park beside the rig, we frequently we can not put out the awning. When we stop at a new park, we usually pay for just one night. After setting up and looking over the site, we decide if we'll stay longer. Many times we have gone out that afternoon or the next morning looking around, then moved to another park. To us, if you're in cell phone range, phone service at the site is a waste. We'd prefer wi-fi. Cable is nice, but I'd rather have a clear view of the southern sky for my TV. Laundries are appreciated. Grass, gravel, or concrete for the pad doesn't matter. But, it's real helpful if it is level so I don't have to play around with that aspect. Oh, ya, the lot needs to be wide enough to open our slides and put out the awning without impinging our neighbors or the landscape. Except at ultimate destinations, we use our site as a base to visit local attractions, so amenities like gamerooms, well equiped stores, basketball courts, etc are not used. However, a pool is nice, as are trails or walkways for some exersize. Want to make my day? Have a steamroom...but I won't hold my breath. Please, make sure the approach is wide enough so that I don't have to drive all over your landscaping to back in - I don't like doing that any more than you like having me. I've seen others talk about price. We've paid over $40/night and felt that it was well worth it. We've also paid less that $25 and wouldn't go back on a bet. Hopefully, we'll see you some time while passing through.
While the previous posts were helpful, you asked specifically about 2 RV parks. Space Center RV is a nice park nearer to Houston, Clear Lake City, NASA and associated restaurants. It is on the service road to I-45 and therefore subject to road noise. This is less of a problem in the back of the facility. There is a path leading to a Cracker Barrel restaurant adjacent to the facility. Try the Kelley’s restaurant up the road in League City if you want a big country breakfast as well. The sites are kind of tight. The staff is friendly – apparently a big change from the previous management as the RV Park Reviews state. The showers/restrooms are private rooms accessed by code. They seemed to be well kept. Bay Colony is also on I-45, but off the service road by one or two blocks. It appears to be well-run and clean. There is more room per site than Space Center. It is further away from Houston & the Space Center, closer to Galveston, and probably a shorter drive time-wise from Kemah due to back roads (we call them “Farm-to-Market” in Texas). We drove through the site with my sister & brother-in-law a couple of weeks ago. We both have stayed at Space Center previously and agreed that Bay Colony would be worth a try on our next trip.
