I sure hope the NC barrier islands come thru this hurricane Earl without a lot of damage. That area is very beautiful and not like too many other places in the US. Not a whole lot of campgrounds there, but I am sure they are all subject to damage. Being a native Floridian, I have been through a lot of hurricanes and a little wobble could put the worst parts of the storm right over them. They will all have to make the "leave or stay" decisions.

From what I understand the barrier islands have a mandatory evacuation order in place.

I'm at the Cape Hatteras KOA. i had to get out, mandatory evacuation for all residents and visitors. came back after a few days. just some water and sand on 12 coming back... no real damage to the park itself. had some shingles blown off a couple of the kabins, nothing major, though.

i would imagine other places nearby fared similarly.

I stayed at that park a few years back. Very nice park.
