I would like to know if anybody knows of any nice campgrounds in Ohio. We would prefer something more adult oriented. It's not that we don't like children, but we just spent the weekend at a beautiful campground but were driven nuts by the sound of screaming, crying little children all weekend. We had to come home just to relax. We have searched campgrounds and went to visit them and all we came up with were seasonal campgrounds. We are around the Akron area and just moved here so any help would be more than appreciated.

We are around the Akron area and just moved here so any help would be more than appreciated. East Harbor State Park in the Lakeside/Marblehead area is nice...right on the Lake. All the times I've gone there, there's been kids, but never ran into the problem of screaming, crying children that would ruin a weekend. You find most of the kids absent from the park during the day, because most families take the kids to Cedar Point and when they get back they pretty much go right to sleep...too tired to scream and cry, LOL! You'll find even less children during the week if you choose to stay then.
Hey Happy Camper, We are planning an Ohio campground trip ourselves for a family reunion. We have found a triple 10 rated campground in the middle of Amish country. We won't be arriving there until 8/9/07 but the reservations are made. The name is Evergreen Park RV Resort in Mt. Eaton. You can visit their website through (campgroundreviews.com). The resort is only a year old and the photo galley on the website is gorgeous with all "10" rated camper reviews. Please visit their website. When making our reservations, the young lady helping (via phone) was wonderfully pleasant and made you feel like you were coming to visit family. She actually let me pick out a site that suited our RV needs. This camp resort is close to many Amish/Mennonite communities with many sightseeing opportunities. I don't know about children but we also try to find campgrounds that lend themselves to a quieter atmosphere. I hope this might be of help to you in your search.

If you don't mind rustic you might want to check out Wolf Run State Park near Caldwell or Barkcamp State Park near Morristown. They have electric sites and shower houses but no flush toilets. They are busier in the summer but in the spring and fall they are very quiet. We camp at them quite often. We have 2 kids and a dog so we stay in the pet area and even in the summer it isn't too noisy. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has a website that lists all of the State Park campgrounds in Ohio. There are several and some of them are pretty small. We have found that the ones closer to the bigger towns and cities are busier than the ones off the beaten path.
