We are planning a Xcountry trip fall, 2016. Boston - Napa Valley with stops along the way and are looking for campground suggestions at a few of the following areas. Traveling in a 2014 Itasca 38' pusher with a jeep toad. Badlands, Jackson Hole, WY, Salt Lake City, UT, Reno (Lake Tahoe area), Yosemite, SanFran/Napa, Bryce/Zion, Sedona, AZ, Albuquerque, Amarillo, TX. Thanks
Welcome to the forum. Course you know that you can use this site to look up the towns you want to stop in and there will be listings of the RV parks in that area. However, I'm sure that our members have lots of favorites that they can suggest also. I'll start off: The times when we have been in Amarillo we have stayed at Oasis RV Resort. We have always had excellent service there, but every once in a while it seems to go through a bad time. The more recent reviews are mostly good. In Albuquerque we like American RV Park. It has two sections: the newer one has the larger sites but absolutely no shade. The older section is still nice and has shade, but the sites are a little tighter. We have stayed in both areas with a 37 ft motorhome and toad. We didn't stay in Lake Tahoe, but rather down in Sparks (right next to Reno) at the Sparks Marina RV Park which we really liked, but I'm sure there are other places closer to (and in) Lake Tahoe. I'll second Oasis in Amarillo and American in Albuquerque. We really liked Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort in Verdi (for Reno & Tahoe) and Salt Lake City KOA (I don't particularly care for KOA's but this was very sufficient for our needs). For Yosemite, we stayed at Yosemite Pines in Groveland and drove in the truck over to the Park. For Zion, our first choice is Zion Canyon RV Park in Springdale (it's crowded but has great views and excellent accessibility to the visitor center - you can catch a free shuttle bus from in front of the rv park or even walk).
Wyoming? If you haven't, you gotta see "Devils Tower". Remember the movie? Great hiking trails! Stay in Sundance, a very quiet little western town, interesting in its own right and near Devils Tower. The RV park there is very nice and has gotten good reviews.
Welcome aboard Bobss! Will you be traveling with children? We loved parking the rig at Tucson, Arizona for a week to take in old movie studios, the military aircraft museum and several gardens and preserves. Little ones would tire quickly with most of that, I fear.
Hey Bobss - Not having any youngsters along tells me to let you know about a great campground just a few miles southwest of Tucson called Gilbert Ray Campground. It is just a short drive up North Kinney Road from the Old Tucson Movie Studios that you mentioned visiting and is a beautiful place to toss out the anchor for a few days. There is electricity at each site plus there are numerous water spigots throughout the campground to use to fill your tank if needed while there. Lots of cactus and walking trails plus some gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. It is also right down the road from a couple of other local attractions so you mentioned being interested in. First come first serve but there are many, many great spaces with views and all are basically level and lots of room between you and your neighbors. And at only $20 a night, how can you go wrong.
