I am headed from the middle of Texas to the east coast along I-10 after the Christmas holiday. I'm only going to stop for the night a couple times along the way. No sight seeing, not lingering. I've checked out the reviews on the website and have an idea for a few places in Lake Charles, LA, Mobile, AL, and Pensacole, FL. Does anyone have some suggestions for in between those major cities? I want cheap, pull thru, and secure.
Rick, In MS Look at Bay St. Louis Hollywood casino, some pull thru and if you wish to stay free use the large parking lots. At Gulfport you have Bay Berry RV Park with pull thru sites, Flying-J at same exit for fuel. Mobile is on the poor side for parks, you have a couple but not good ones. In LA You have a KOA at Scott near Lafayette, down side is road noise 24/7. Ask for site down near the shop and noise is way down. At Kinder you have casino with full services, very nice. About 18 miles north of I-10. At Mandeville exit 65 south down to Hwy 190 you will find two state parks. Fontaine Bleau and Fairview Riverside, nice. Baton Rouge you will find Farr Park south of city. In FL You have Gulf Pines KOA at Milton exit 31 north, nice. Across northern FL on I-10 parks are around like state parks but others are way off the road and some are not to good. You have nice rest stop on I-10 at river near exit 158 & 166 that you can stay over night in if you wish.
We stayed in a nice campground in Penasocaa area called Pine Glenn. Lots of free concrete boondoclking spots along I-10 also. Have a great trip and watch out for the weather. My new cell hone has a great little weater service on it with even radar.
wprigge, Yes, you do have some road noise but it was not a problem. It could have been the wind was blowing the right way. I remember trees in park and a tree line next to I-10, that helps as well.
JohnBlue> Presently sitting in the casino CG at Kinder. Was a bit farther from I-10 than I expected but glad we made the drive. Nice campground. Friday nite seafood buffet a bonus. We're don't do KOA but will let u know if we do any of the others on the list. Thanks for the help.
Rick, We use casino at Kinder as a base camp anytime we tour this part of LA. DI's Cajun Food & Music is at 6561 Evangeline Hwy at Basile has great food at well. Check web site under DI's You are close to Eunice as well if you wish to drive over and spend the day. First stop would be Savoy music store. You will meet all the locals playing Cajun Music, this run from 9:00 am to 12:00 east on Hwy 190 5 miles outside of Eunice, look for all the cars on road. Next travel back to town and find Liberty theater in center of town. Cajun bands play tonight. Next door is folk life center (free). You have two Cajun Museums to tour. At end of today drive over to DI's for dinner and more good music. You need to get moving now, day is short. Update on Gulf Pines. If I remember right the place is a Good Sams / KOA campground and would do the 10% on one card or the other. The place under went a total rebuild some years ago and everything was new then. I had no problems and price was good back then. I remember the road coming out of park is a small problem. You need to drive north about 1/4 mile and do a U-turn before you can get back to I-10. This may be fixed by now. Sites are long pull thrus with 30/50 amps, water, and sewer hookup's.
