BRRRRRRRRRRR Remember, you can track Santa's progress at the NORAD web site. http://www.noradsanta.org/en/home.html Apparently, this has been a tradition for years. How it got started was..... Apparently, a long time ago, forgot how many years.... there was a special "Santa" line set up by some community. Well, the "Santa" line was one number different from a phone number at NORAD. Lots of people inadvertently dialed up NORAD. So, NORAD just kept up the tradition..... JJ

JJ Actually JJ here's how it got started it was from a mispritted phone # and a wonderful goverment employee ....Have a Merry Christmas JJ The tradition began in 1955 after a Colorado Springs-based Sears Roebuck & Co. advertisement for children to call Santa misprinted the telephone number. Instead of reaching Santa, the phone number put kids through to the CONAD Commander-in-Chief's operations "hotline." The Director of Operations at the time, Colonel Harry Shoup, had his staff check radar for indications of Santa making his way south from the North Pole. Children who called were given updates on his location, and a tradition was born.
We track NORAD every year and have been doing so since our 9 year old was 3. A great tradition and an easy way to get them to bed early. I hope everyone has a great Holiday season. Merry Christmas and I hope the New Years brings all safe travels and inexpensive fuel.
