I know we are late to the game, but are planning to visit the west coast of Florida this January – Naples, Sanabel, Fort Meyers, St. Petersberg, etc. Does anyone have any favorite parks in these areas? We tend to prefer more natural surroundings (state parks, etc.) and don’t have kids so we don’t need a lot of the extra amenities (playground, pool, etc.).
    Thanks for your input!!!! :)

Check out Fort Desota park in Penellas county-- south of Tampa. Great park if you can get in during the winter. Check out the reviews

I agree with Bud, Fort de Soto is a great place for somebody who likes nature and quietness. It's neither a state park nor a national park, but built very much like these. It is part of the Pinellas county park systems. It also has a very good reservatio system. For some photos have a look here:

The photos 0880 to 0969 are from this park

We stayed at Periwinkle Campground on Sanibel in October. It is the only campground on Sanibel Island. Take your bicycles. It was quaint.

We are in Lake Panasoffkee, FL. at Better Times RV Park. Nice place other then our neighbor's barking black lab. There is another campground we have been in visiting people in the same town called Turtleback.
