Would like information on any good campground close to the the South I-75 entrance of Atlanta, Ga. I am fully aware of "Atlanta South RV Resort", and do not wish to use it again. Thank you in advance for any information offered. The term "Close" could be up to 50 miles south, off I-75.
I don't have a map close by, but Stone Mountain is pretty close to Atlanta. It has a beautiful campground. We were there in August a couple years ago, and was not crowded at all. We had a popup then and the sites were very spacious. They have a new section and an old section. We were in the new. The bathrooms - GREAT! They have alot to do in the park as well. Every night they have a laser show on the stone on the side of the mountain. It is free and well worth going. We went everynight we were there. They also have a working plantation. This does have a fee, but we really enjoyed it. We will definitely go again.
We recommend Indian Springs State park, near Jackson. It's not too far off 75, and it is clean, safe, and has no permanent residents like the park you mentioned first. It is still outside the metro area. The Wal Mart in McDonough is very Popular & safe. It's at the Hwy 81/20 Exit, and has Cracker Barrel, QT Gas, and everything important to life. The police Dept's less than a mile away!
I would also recommend High Falls STATE PARK which is right off I-75 at the same exit as Indian Springs. Make sure it is High Falls State Park, there is also a privately owned "High Falls Campground" that is full of resident campers, the roads are not good, etc etc etc. High Falls State Park has two sides, one being the River side which is where we camped in March. The sites are nice and well maintained, we did have to level a bit, but nothing I couldn't handle. GOOD LUCK
