So we are newbies and are looking for some destinations in the southeast during our kids Christmas break. We live in central Kentucky and would like to keep the drive within 600 miles or so. Ideas?

This past summer we visited Panama City Beach,FL and fell in love with the place. We stayed at Racoon River Campground next to a water park(can't remember the name). Try to stay away from sites 70-75 as they are not very wide or long. It is an easy 5 minute walk to the beach and the main drag for restaurants and souvenir shops.

So I assume that your kids have had the free samples and gotten the T-shirt from the Bourbon Trail? :)

It is assumed that you want to travel south, is that correct? And you did not mentioned the ages of your kids.

If you are into a bit of history, then perhaps the FDR state park in Pine Mountain, GA. Nice CG there.

Battleship USS Alabama is a neat tour in Mobile. U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. The National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola is fabulous.

Destin, FL is a trilling tourist mecca. Take lots of money if you wish to take advantage of all the things that are offered to tourist.

If you haven't already been to it, the aquarium in Chattonoga, TN is a wonderful adventure for kids and adults, alike.

    Have fun.

Bourbon is definitely a staple here!

Kids are 9 & 13. Great suggestions as we (yes, even our kids) love history.
    Thanks!
