Plan on wintering in Texas this year and would appreciate recommendations for RV Parks in the Coastal Bend area. Also would like to know what the winter weather is like.

Although we've never wintered over in TX, my wife and I spent June, July and early Aug. (left before the trop. storm season got crankin') of this past summer in the Coastal Bend area of Port Aransas, and can supply you with a small bit of info. Early reservations for the winter are a must! RV Resorts such as Pioneer book full quickly! Gulf waters is a real nice place........ On the Beach RV is, well, on the Beach! It's not quite the fancy setup that GW is, but it is appealing. Other RV parks are more in the downtown area of Port Aransas.......don't forget to visit the Port "A" lodge at milepost "9" on the beach!!!....great fantail shrimp and cold beer....take note of the "Birds nesting" sign in the bar. Also, take the free ferry across the ship channel from Aransas Pass to Port Aransas..........approaching Mustang Island from the south involves traveling along the SPID (South Padre Island Drive) causeway (P22) thru Corpus Christi which is under construction, and traffic is a genuine pain  in that area. Only one grocery store in Port "A"........the IGA. Well stocked, and they don't rip you off. Try a six pack of the Fat Tire amber ale........great stuff!

Be sure to check out the Rockport/Fulton area. Great RV Parks and only about a 10 minute drive to Aransas Pass then on to Port Aransas Beach area. Miles and miles of beach to enjoy. Lots to see and do in all three areas. Enjoy.
