We wanted to spend 3 or 4 nights in the San Francisco area in June. We would like to visit Fisherman's Wharf, cable cars, Alcatraz, and all the standard tourist stuff. Also, we don't have a toad so we will have to take public transportation (preferably) or rent a car. Does anyone have any recommendations for RV parks that are: Safe, Clean, not too far out, and near public transportation? Dave Eugene, OR
Dave, We used Novato RV Park at Novato, Ca. Parks are hard to find around the bay. This park is next to Hwy. 101 about 18 miles north of the Golden Gates bridge. You do have public transportation that will take you down to the ferry boat. This boat will take you across the bay into Fishman's Wharf. You pick up a pass as you get off boat to ride the street cars around town. You do not wish to take a car into town, no place to park it. BART is a great way to get around town. The old street cars are a lot of fun to ride. Cable cars will take you up and down the hills. The ferry boat will pass San Quentin prison on left as you put out of port. Park phone number is 1-800-733-6787. We ran the wine tour up into Napa also, very nice to see. People in office will help plan trips to see town. You will be safe here and park was clean. You need to plan a number of days here to see city, I think four or five or more, need good pair of shoes. Lots to see and do here! Have a lot of fun!
RV Dad: I can help you most by telling you where NOT to stay--the San Francisco North/Petaluma KOA Campground. Read the comments on this place on this website. It is overpriced, crowded, difficult ingress and egress, and a ripoff all around. Stay anywhere but this place!
