I'm looking for a Lake to go to with my family that is not too extremely far from Los Angeles and that is large enough that it will not be impacted on the holiday weekend! I have thought of Havasu... anything closer?

Depends on what you want to do. There are a bunch of lakes up the Owens Valley.

They aren't for skiing but great fishing.

Many are boondocking without hookups but the scenery is spectacular though not like the bikinis on Lake Havasu.

Several campgrounds with hookups in Lone Pine, Bishop, Mammoth, Topaz Lake.

Get out your Trailer Life Camping Book and call to see about availability if you want hookups, but boondocking is abundant.

    Have fun.
