I'm looking for a little information on any of the private/public CG's in the Bryce Canyon/Zion area. We have never visited the area, and I have read mixed reviews. We are not adverse to dry camping, but if there are any particularly good (&spacious) private parks we'd like to hear about them. Thanks!
You can stay at the National Park camground in Zion NP and have an electric hookup. No water or sewer but with electric this is better than dry camping at other NP's. Campground is right at the base of Watchman Rock, which is really a mountain. Clean campground with a great view. Adjacent to visitor center and buses to the sites within the park. We camped here in 2002 and the rates were $18 per night.
Virgin, UT has one of Trailer Life's highest rated campgrounds--about 15 miles from Zion National Park. It is called Zion River Resort and I highly recommend it.
I agree with Jerry. Zion River Resort is a really nice RV park right on the Virgin River. Highly recommended.
Bryce is one of our favorites! The whole area is gorgeous. While we were in that area, we stayed at Ruby's Inn RV park which is right at the entrance to Bryce. Bryce and Zion are two totally different places. One, Zion, is at the bottom looking up...the other, Bryce is at the top of a "fiery canyon" looking down. It's mesmerizing to just sit there and watch the sun change the shadows. Allow at least a full day for each...we would have liked more to be able to hike around more. Also, you 're not far from Moab and its fabulous parks...Arches is probably one of our favorite National Parks...again, it's breathtaking if the weather's good. Jeep roads abound in the area that take you back into beautiful canyons. I second the recommendation of the Zion River Resort in Virgin...excellent. I can't tell you much about Utah except where NOT to stay. We stayed at the Canyonlands RV Park in Moab, Utah, and it was a disaster. Sites are too small, trees overhang and hit big rig tops, management has placed rock and boulders everywhere and you easily run up on them, very little turning room, etc. etc. If you're driving anything over the basic fold out tent camper, stay away from this place. Other parks in town look pretty decent, but avoid this one.
Christina, You would like Zion Nat Park. You can get by with less water or sewer for couple days. Park is beauitful! Ruby's Inn is also OK for a couple days to see Bryce Canyon or you can stay inside Nat. Park. One more place that you can tour two parks from is Bauer's Canyon Ranch RV Park on US, Hwy. 98. This site is small and OK for couple days. The drive up Hwy. 98 to Bryce Canyon is great. Also remember the Tunnel on east side on Zion on Hwy. 9. Park has a fee to drive you throuth the 1.1 mile long tunnel. Road grades (8%) are very high for couple miles before tunnel. John Tampa, Fl.
We are currently snowbirding at Zion River Resort. About 50 snowbirders here and what a wonderful place. Great management with lots of activities. Hiking, exercise, games, dinners and the most beautiful rv park and national park in Utah. You will enjoy. This is our second winter and hope to come back for many more.
Stayed at Coral Pink Sands SP in Kanab UT last April with 29' trailer. About one spectacular hour to Zion and a couple to Bryce. Loved it. Paved sites and water hookups. Very quiet, clean, and uncommercial with a great staff. A unique experience and we shall return. Stayed one night at Ruby's but left because of impending snowstorm. It was OK with plenty of room but not great. In Moab stayed a few nights at Canyonlands CG. Tight fit, noisy but easy walk to shops and restaurants. Not a good place to hang out at all.
