I would love to see an option for whether or not a campground has adequate cell service. With an elderly mother-in-law who has been in and out of the hospital, we need to be accessible. Whether or not a campground has cell service could be a deciding factor when selecting a place to stay. I'm sure there are others in the same boat...
You would have to post what kind of service you have. Most all services work here but it can also vary by the type of phone you have.
We have looked at this issue, but it is complex. Reviewers would have to note which carrier they have and whether they are talking about voice or data service. Furthermore, unless there is a standardized way of providing the information it will be extremely confusing because most people use the number of "bars" on their phone displays as a measure of signal strength but that is nothing but a crude measure and on many phones it only reflects the strength of the voice signal not the data one.
You will probably end up having the exact situation you have now with people posting about their Wifi experiences. One post will say the wifi was fine, the next will say it didn't work at all, then another post will say it worked for them, then another that it didn't work. Basically an endless loop where you never know what you will actually experience. Best suggestion is Call the park, they know what cellular services work and don't and probably won't lie since all that will gain them is an unhappy customer.
One thing that has been suggested is a speedtest app within the RVPR smartphone app which is under development. That way a quantitative value for data upload/download speed would be recorded along with the network being used. It's not a perfect solution and, of course, wouldn't provide direct information on the quality of the voice signal, but these days most people are interested in data not voice.
We generally check the service coverage map that our carrier provides on-line. It will tell us pretty accurately if there's service in the area and what level of service we can expect. We haven't had any surprises yet.
