We live in central Alabama. For Christmas this year, I think it would be really neat to go camping up north where there is snow. I know the kids would love to have a White Christmas. Can anyone provide recommendations for a "nearby" region where we can get into some snow? Somewhere near the central US (e.g. Kentucky area) would be good. I would like for there to be snow on the ground but not so much that we can't get around in the vehicle - especially while towing. I expect this will be some place that is well adapted to snow and can keep the roads clear.
Hi tundracamper: Here's a suggestion for a He-Man winter camping event: Grand Casino RV resort in Hinckley, MN. Open 365 days a year. Definitely will be snow on the ground.....could be -20F also. The roads are clear, usually somewhere around 10 to 15 rigs there, so you'll have neighbors. Make sure you bring a couple electric heaters (the heated oil type work really well.) The RV park has heated water risers, full hook-ups, nice and clean bath house, paved roads, rated something like 10-9-9 by TL. Inn within 200 yards (with an indoor pool).....Casino 500 yards away...(another indoor pool plus a large arcade along with a Kids Quest for the toddlers who need "sitting.")...shuttle service.....think about it. No, I don't work there. We've spent a couple winter days there went the temps dipped to 0, and there was 6" snow on the ground.......kinda refreshing change. You just have to behave when you enter the casino. --Dave
