I know we all have our favorite RV parks and campgrounds so thought it might be fun to list which are our top 5 "destination" parks. No one nighters allowed. We pretty much limit ourselves to the west coast so our top 5 will be based on the places we have stayed, and still do stay, at. Being how I am starting this thread, I'll take the liberty of going first if nobody minds? And if someone does, too bad as here I go................. 1. Winchester Bay RV Resort - Winchester Bay, Oregon 2. Seven Feathers Casino/RV Resort - Canyonville, Oregon 3. Pala Casino/RV Resort - Pala, California 4. Tie: Gilbert Ray Campground - Tucson, Arizona & JGW RV Park - Redding, CA 5. Distant Drums RV Resort - Camp Verde, Arizona Okay, I cheated, as we like two as our number 4 choice............ I'll turn this over to the forum now and go grab a cold one................. PS: Jason, you're invited to join in of course but just know that none of us will probably recognize any of your top 5 choices down there in the Land of Oz............. BankShot....................(aka Terry)

Since Bankshot listed RV Parks, I'll list my favorite STATE parks: Harris Beach State Park, Brookings OR (if you can get one of the ocean view sites). Beachside State Park, Waldport OR (has the most sought after single campsite in the state. No false advertising in the campground name) Ponderosa State Park, McCall ID Wallowa Lake State Park, Joseph OR Beverly Beach and Sunset Bay State Parks OR (campgrounds are not that special but the beaches are steps away and there are great "beachy" things to do within a couple minutes. It is so hard to pick! We have favorites for various reasons, most of which are location and nearby cool things! 1. Fort Pickens NP campground, Pensacola FL 2. Top Sail Hill Preserve State Park, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 3. Seal Rocks RV Cove, Seal Rock, OR 4. Renfro Valley Entertainment Center, Mount Vernon, KY 5. The Great Outdoors RV, Franklin, NC Wow, this was really difficult! I may change my mind this summer, when we cover the Northeastern US!
We took your advice and are now at Gilbert Ray (A43). Also when opting for this one we discovered a lot of Tucson parks are aiming for the Snowbird crowd with organized events etc. Then there are those is the "rougher part of town". BLM areas seem to be taken over by drug air drop zones. Gilbert Ray not only fits our needs but, as you explained, is a nicely laid out park. Yesterday was about 85F. We ran our AC and used the Microwave and did not encounter any power issues. They musta got it fixed. Thanks for your recommendation. Too bad you can only stay seven days. Darrell & Jerry
Hey Darrell - Glad you enjoying your stay at GRC. Wish were there right now and normally we would be as the first two weeks of Feb. is when we are there. Darn, missed you guys "by that much". We have some stuff on plate currently that is preventing us from being there but at least someone is enjoying watching the sunsets, sunrises and all the other neat things in the area. If you want a really neat place for breakfast, take that short ride back into the small town you pass thru going up So. Kinney road. As you are just about to enter that small town area there is a small crafts and artsy place and right there is a small cafe' called Coyote Pause. Great food and neat atmosphere. You won't be disappointed. We have only had breakfast there but had we been there now with you we would be going there to try their lunch menu. Anyway, breathe in some of that clean desert air for us and as you sit outside in the warm, balmy evenings, just think about your old RVPR BankShot guy and tip your glass of whatever you are drinking to him. I'll be sure to tip mine right back attacha....... PS: DId you, or are you planning, to go to the old Tucson Movie Studios? You'll pass it on your left as you are heading to Coyote Pause.......... All the very best, Terry...............(aka BankShot)
We don't travel as much as some of you, so iIonly have two places we return to regularly: Cutty's resort in Coledale, CO. It's got two pools, tennis, basketball, mini-golf, onsite breakfast on sundays and dinner on saturdays and lots of other activities for kids and adults. The other is free camping on BLM land behind clear creek resivoire near buena vista, CO. Lots of great sites in the trees as well as out in the open, which ever you choose. Chris G.
okay I'm watching the olympics killing some time so I thought I would give some detail on why I give an edge to Winhall Brook. So hope everyone is okay with me being a little off topic. Located in a part of VT that has all the country charm you would look for, inside a valley surrounded by hills, small towns, country stores, absolutely nothing suburban about the area. The campground itself is connect to rail trails that run along a river under the cover of trees. The rail trail connects to hiking trails that lead to several water falls that overlook the river vally. But what stands out the MOST is the river that cuts through the campground, you can either swim in the deeper pools, wade in the shallow parts, float on a inner tube or get some sun on the sandy/rocky edge, just picture something out of a norman rockwell painting. Mike
Wow mike, sounds beautiful! Admins, please do not delete this thead ever. I will use it for reference when i am in those areas.
Did the Wildlife museum while it was still cool in the morning. Awesome!! Did lunch at Coyote Pause. Good food...poor service. She had to have been a new waitress. Totally screwed everything up. Would go back thought to give it another chance. Did Old Tucson. I am a big John Wayne fan and really like Westerns so I thought it was fantastic. Watched the shoot out. It was great but I think it spoiled me for Tombstone. I thought it was tacky and touristy. Thanks again for the heads up. I did have a couple of wobbly pops in your honor.
Hey Chris. Thanks for the heads up on the BLM. We dry camp when we can and if it fits. We expect to be in that neck of the woods next year. Darrell & Jerry
