Hi, I'm looking to try some new campgrounds in Wiscconsin or Michigan. We liked Pine-Aire in Eagle River, but they have closed this year. Has anyone stayed some place good? We like shady sites, things to do nearby. We like smaller golf courses, fishing, canoeing, hiking and relaxing. Anyone got any good ideas?

You might want to try Camp Holiday at Boulder Junctio our group tries to get there at least once a year. Its a quiet place with several permanent sites but many available for the traveler. Super clean showers. Anothr place is River Pines at Ontanogan, Michigan, very clean, request a site in the pines as they have some in an open area that could be a bit warm. A must to visit here is the Lakre of the Clouds in the Porcupine, Mts. about 15 miles west. Fantastic scenery. There is also a small restaurent at Silver City that has bears that come for treats, a fence seperates you from them. Also the Upper Mich, State Parks are great. They have elec but no water hook-ups. Water is available to fill your tank.

Our family was in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan last summer. It was wonderful. We camped at the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula, near Copper Harbor, at the Fort Wilkin's state park. This was excellent. Large sites (we have a popup trailer) and great facilities. We'd go back in an instant. Lots of activities for kids - taking a Living History tour of the Fort; riding a motorboat out to the old Copper Harbor light house, hiking, shopping in Copper Harbor itself.

Could not agree more with the recommendation to go to Camp Holiday. Ray and Cathy are terrific people who run a very well maintained campground in a beautiful area of the state. Lake in the Clouds is great as well as the hiking on the west end of the Porkies too!
