We've stayed at a great Yogi in Gatlinburg a few times. Very quiet - very quaint with the 3 mountain streams crossing the property.

We have 3 young kids and are looking for a pretty park on water with a nice pool area. We have a 40 ft. with a slide so we prefer a larger space. We plan on visiting Dollywood etc.. but do not have to be right next door to the activities. This is a vacation so we are not trying to find a bargain. We would like to have a park that provides beautiful scenery combined with family fun. We would appreciate your recommendations.

We stayed at the Crazy Horse Campground. But, it was several years ago - 1998. Our kids loved it. It was clean and a very nice park then.

    Here are reviews of it.

As you can see, some of the reviews from 2003 are bad. It seems as if mostly the complaints are about the management. Judging by the last review 2004, it's under new management. If you don't want to take a chance, there are several others listed on the review page. A lot of them have good reviews and links to their websites. Good luck.

My wife and I stayed at Creekside in Pigeon Forge and found it okay. We only needed a place to stay because we were very busy visiting the area. The cg is a bit tight but we were able to park our 40' DP with 4 slide outs with no problem. Our daughter stayed next to us in a popup and our granddaughters enjoyed the pool. We would stay there again if we visit that area. It is located a few blocks away from the main highway so it was very peaceful.

In Townsend we stayed at Tremont Hills and enjoyed it. In Pigeon Forge we have stayed at King's Holly Haven RV Park three times and also enjoyed that one. I think it all depends on what you are doing and what you require as to which campground you choose. We chose Tremont to do hiking, etc but Holly Haven to do Pigeon Forge & Dollywood.

I think Claybaughs Campground is the best value in Pigeon forge area. It is nice campground with lots of shade. Has nice pool and bath houses plus it is cheaper than any we have found near by. We have also stayed at Little River and enjoyed it. It is closer to park and you can rent innertubes which was nice. But the next time we will probably stay at tremont hills wich has decks that overlook the creek that were really awesome. Alot of good campgrounds in area but there are also some that are not worth a visit. Be careful.

    Sorry Pudman,
I do not recall ever seeing that campground. I do know that most campgrounds in Townsend are pretty much together on the river before you get to the Cades Cove entrance. That is were Tremont Hills and Little River are.

I will agree that Rivers Edge is nice, Also there is River Plantation. River Plantation is my favorite ( though you need reservations ). I live only an hour from Pigeon Forge and make a lot of trips there in the RV. Crazy Horse is really great if you have kids. With Crazy Horse you may not want to take a large RV unless you call ahead. I have taken my 40' Endeavor there with reservations. Avoid the KOA in a motorhome because you will pay double there over any campground in the area.

Absolutely River Edge is the best. B) Also there is one right next to it, Twin Mountain, formerly Creekstone, that is just as nice.
Both are walking distance to Pidgeon Forge main drag but still very quiet.

    QUOTE(napria @ Jun 1 2005, 08:38 PM)
:( We stayed at Twin Creek this April 2005, and didn't really care for it.  We have a puppy who was 3 months old at the time and learning to be crate trained.  When I checked in, I was shown my site was to be at the far back corner of the park, and the pet area was across the park at the entrance.  I told them that my puppy was too young, and never would make the walk to the designated area in time to do her business and asked for a site closer.  They told me that I could not have any other site.  In the entire 5 days that we were there, there were multiple sites much closer to the pet area that were never occupied.  Additionally, the day after we arrived three families that were camping together each in very large class A's (we have a fifth wheel, not that it matters) were put on either side of us and directly across from us.  Their kids were constantly on our site, playing, riding bikes and talking.

I didn't find the owners/managers to be helpful or friendly in the least.  Also, we were under the (mistaken) impression that being situated at the foot of the Great Smokies, Twin Creek RV park would have access.  We were hoping to be able to leave our 5er and walk some nature trails.  Unfortunately, to go into the Great Smokies, it would have required a drive of at least 20 minutes, from what I recall.

I was very disappointed in this RV park, in part because it consistently gets such high ratings.  Perhaps if the person who had checked us in had accommodated our needs, we would have had a better time.

    napria,

Wow sorry to hear of your bad experience at Twin Creek. As I said ours was quite the opposite, in fact the owner every morning was out blowing the leaves from the roads, restroom area and your site if you wanted him too (It was in October). He even offered to blow the leaves off our slides and awning on the day we were packing up to leave.

When we arrived, he jumped on a golf cart, escorted you to the site, and helped you back in. Most of the folks (fellow Campers) were really friendly, and the only problem we could ever say we had... which certainly was not Twin Creek's fault, was the trolley was never on schedule. I guess maybe they had a bad day or week? while you were there... :( However, that being said, If I felt I was mistreated or mislead, I certainly understand you not wanting to go back. We did meet some friends there and it was in October, most of the children were back in school, not that that would make any difference.

There are a lot of nice campgrounds in that area, this just happens to be one I really enjoyed. Hopefully you will have a better experience on your next visit to the area.

We love Little Rivers campground just out of Townsend. The bike trail goes all the way into town on both sides of the road and makes for a leisurely day. Campground is clean and quiet and watched closely. We go there at least once a year to chill.
