    :D

As an official card carrying ambassador from Deep in the Heart of the real "Texas Hill Country Country", I am flabbergasted that anyone from the Livingston/Conroe area would attempt to fraudulently represent that area as the "Hill Country". As Redd Foxx would say, "Get ready Elizabeth, I think this is the big one." RVers from there come to the pristene rivers and scenery of the Hill Country to get away from the "burbs" of Houston. This is almost as disturbing as someone from Amarillo representing their self as Texan when we all know they are closer to South Dakota than Texas.

Seriously though folks, any place in an RV is a great place if you like it, and I have never been to a place in my RV that I didn't like. I just like some better than others. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

    Doug :D

We love the Gulf area of Alabama. From I-10 south there are very many RV parks so you can choose from quiet country parks to those closer to towns. We are at a park just a couple of blocks from the white sand beaches of the Gulf and within walking distance of very many seafood restaurants. This area is not crowded right now (their high season starts mid March) and the costs are low. There are periods of cool weather but that suits me fine. We are worried though that if too many people find out about the best kept secret of Alabama it will then become another south California, Arizona, Texas, Florida. You pick but in my opinion they are all the same, overcrowded and overpriced. For those that golf, there is a good selection of courses and the prices are very reasonable as far as I can tell. The hurricane did some very real damage to the Mississippi coast but they are working on it and it is also a nice area to winter especially if you like the casinos. Think Biloxi and Bay St. Louis.

We have stayed at the Apache Junction/Mesa, Arizona KOA during the winter and really enjoyed the park. The workers are very polite and the grounds are beautiful. All of our neighbors welcomed us while we were getting the 5th wheel set up. You are within driving distance of about anything you want/need, but are not in the heart of Phoenix, which is too busy for us.

Wine Country RV Park in Paso Robels, CA is at the top of our list as far as the sites and grounds are concerned. Our neighbors weren't so friendly, but not all campers are! It is in a beautiful part of California and if you like to tour wineries, that is the place to be!

Kissimmee KOA in Orlando, Florida is a very nice park too. The sites are all concrete pads and can accommodate big rigs to small rigs.

    Hope this helps!

    Nick

Would love to hear from folks: pros and cons of places you have stayed for the winters. Recently discovered this website and have submitted reviews of campgrounds/resorts we've enjoyed during our first year as fulltimers. Was hopeful to get a string going of 'best places to spend a winter'. How long did you stay? Would you return? Words of wisdom are most appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello Nick! Native californians and we've never stopped over in Paso Robles area... sigh... Appreciate the feedback, thanks so much.

Where are you all wintering this year? December started out COLD... west of the mississippi anyway. Previous mild years spoiled us.

Have stayed for the last couple of years in the Lake Fork area of Texas. It's about 90 miles East of Dallas and has dozens of RV Parks at a reasonable rates. If you like to fish it's a place to go.

    Hi,

How cold does it get there? Is there a town nearby so I can find the Lake Fork area on a map? Thanks in advance.

    Hi pianotuna,

I found a Lake Fork Reservoir on Google maps east of Emory, Tx, south of Yantis, TX and northwest of Quitman, TX. Hope this helps.

just got back from florida. If you want to go there are many nice parks, I would suggest that you go as far south as melbourne of even better ft pierce. we stayed in fr pierce for 6 weeks at a campground called treasure ccoast rv resort. very ndice, clean quiet and wasnt that expensive. the weather this far south is better. stayed at camalot inear melbourne. lk park, but we had motorcycles running through our bedroom on us 1 all night.also stayed at seasons in the sun in titusville for a week. only comment was that it segregatedd by type of rv . the class a and class c had all the good spots and the trailers and fifth wheels had the rest.
On the west coast we stayed last winter at grand lake in orange park near ocala. very nice and reasonable park.
have stayed further south at ft. meyers . nice but parks are crowded and fairly expensive.
we also stayed a couple of days at emerald beach campground at navarre near pensicola. very nice campground right on the sound with beack at one end of park .

If you don't want to go south for the winter, and want to winter in a mild area in the North, I was just at a park in Sequim, WA (on the Olympic Peninsula) that had great winter monthly rates. Their water spigots are even insulated, so you don't have to use heat tape (except maybe on your water hose....). The park is Rainbows End RV Park, currently the most recent review on it is mine........

Sequim is kind of mild, in the 40's during the winter.....
