QUOTE(jobob @ Sep 19 2009, 06:28 PM) There is a park I go to that has received some bad reviews, usually 2 in a row. There is a competing park that "reopened" and it receives '9' & '10' reviews around the same time. When the competing park closed a few years ago a bunch of the people that had been going there for many years came over to the park I like to go to. Now that the other park reopened some of them have gone back and they figure if they write disparaging remarks about the competition they won't close their park again. I know this is happening because one of the campers told me they were doing it and tried to get me to come over. There is little anyone can do to stop this kind of abuse and that's why I never put much stock in online reviews - expecially those that try to be I-know-it-all, witty, hurtful, snide or ugly. That’s why I am completely against the review that's provided in this forum, there is no way to assure that the comments published are honest or guided by specific interests.

The reviews are useful, but need to be evaluated. I don't put a lot of faith in posters that have a small number of reviews and the ones that are very different from the majority of reviews. Most campgrounds are legit, and the bogus ones can be detemined pretty easily. It is a process and people using these reviews will be a lots better off than the ones just using pot luck. I continue to use them whenever I can. It is almost impossible to get all of the cheaters. We just have to understand this and not throw out the baby with the bath water.
QUOTE Long ago I learned to never trust any review who's author I do not know. So........ you sure know a lot of people B)

Well said, But I think some sort of system needs to be maintained whether it be the three review minimum or some other checks and balances to keep the cheaters from watering down this web sites good reputation...IMO Mike
Yep, they are able to eliminate the low hanging fruit, but if a cheater is dedicated to his cheating, it s almost impossible to stop. I know having been the victum of this type of cheating before we retired. This site does much better than most. Some of the big hotel type ones like Trip Advisor are riddled with cheaters and worthless, but millions still use them.
WE all work hard here to keep the "low hanging fruit" out but some will make it to market. As tons of people have said, read all the reviews before you pick a campground.
