The park staff and camp hosts do a great job maintaining the natural beauty of this coastal campground. Campsites and Vault baths are very clean. Lots of great trails for hiking, biking and a great...

“Renew and Enjoy!”
Nightly Rate: $23 USD
Islay Creek is a beautiful, peaceful, clean primitive campground in the park. For us, it is one of the best central coast campgrounds. It has all the things we enjoy - serenity, lots of trails,...

Tip for Other Campers:
Just a short walk from the campground: many beautiful walking, hiking and biking trails and a very nice clean sandy beach. The best part - just a short walk from the campground or a short drive down the road. The 5 mile RT coastal bluff trail is one of our favorites. Pick up a one page Montana de Oro SP sheet that has trail map on the back from the visitor...
Tips from campers about Montana de Oro State Park
- Moo1966 Do not follow your GPS and arrive through the town of Pismo Beach. It’s a tiny, very crowded town, with lots of cars lining the streets, which is packed on the weekends. Instead, come in through the town of Grover Beach, drive down Grand Ave and turn north on Highway 1, so that you turn left into the Park.4 years ago Pismo Coast Village RV Resort
- Debra Burke Rick's in Avila Beach offered the best clam chowder we have ever tasted. Cool Cat's in Pismo was a close second on the chowder.3 years ago Pismo Coast Village RV Resort
- Suesan_838 Downtown Pismo Beach is a 10 minute walk, which has lots of restaurants and bars. The surrounding area Avila Beach, San Luis Obispo, Oceano offer fabulous wine tasting and beautiful coastal views, beach access and hikes and great restaurants. The weather in August tends be sunny and beautiful. Hearst Castle is an hour drive. The central coast in general is a gorgeous area.2 days ago Pismo Coast Village RV Resort

Some ATV noise but an ok park.
Too bad the state Rangers are such jerks. We camped at Montana de Oro State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
Tip for Other Campers:
Be sure to have everything you need....
“Great hiking!”
Nightly Rate: $25 USD
When the only camper in the park has Texas plates, one has to question their intelligence. This was during the big storm of Jan 2023. We spent 36 hours with the slideout pulled in due to wind. The...

“Islay Creek Campground ”
Nightly Rate: $25 USD
First, the cons. The sites are not capable of hosting rigs over about 32 feet. There is potable water, but it is gravity fed so you really can't fill your rig. In short, this is primitive camping at...

Tip for Other Campers:
You are maybe four miles from Los Osos with groceries, coffee shops and restaurants. La Casita has excellent salsa that you can buy as take out without buying a meal, though their food is outstanding!...
