It is minutes from the Visitor Center of the Smokies and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Cherokee had a small town with shops and restaurants. One day we did Clingmans Dome, Newfoundland Gap, lunch at Chimney Rock Picnic area, went towards Gatlinburg and did the Roaring Forks Motor Nature Trail and had dinner in Gatlinburg. - copertop HEADS UP! If coming from the North, AVOID MAGGIE VALLEY. This is a super tight, extremely steep road. It is 1 minute longer to take the highway to the west. Take 74, AVOID 19. Also, its like 3 minutes to the park entrance, or the very south end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Also watch for Elk on the way in!3 years ago River Valley Campground

Saw some of the most beautiful views and scenery of my entire life! Going back home over the Smokies after dark was a bit challenging but managed.
