Tip for Other Campers:
Visit Custer, SD as it has great restaurants, grocery store and a hospital. Very good access in the Black Hills using Hwy 16A. DO NOT use large vehicles or camper RV's on the "Needles Road (SD 87) due to road width limitations and curves. (For example, nothing larger than a Ford 150.)

Tips from campers about Custer State Park - Stockade Lake North Campground
- Ed-CO&TX Lynn's Dakota Mart in Custer was a very good market for food supplies.
- Normimnot Dont miss Sylvan Lake Area, was able to see more wildlife on way to Wind Cave than on Wildlife Loop. Drive North on Iron Mountain Road. That way youll see Mount Rushmore when exiting some of the tunnels.
- Foothills Jim The nearby town of Custer has groceries, laundry and restaurants. There is a Custer State Park entrance fee that is required for each motor vehicle.Dakota Mart in Custer is the place to go for groceries.

We came for the Buffalo Roundup and that was definitely & a must do. If you go, decide which lot you want first, north lot or south lot. Buffalo are rounded up by cowboys and they'll go past the south lot (you're behind a fence up a hill, so perfectly safe) & then they run towards the north lot and pass that hill full of observers.
