This is a great location, right on the Colorado River and almost across the road from Fisher Towers. I had an easy back-in site that was pretty level, considering. The camp host was very nice as...

Of the 13 BLM campgrounds on this stretch of the Colorado River, this one isn't great but better than some. Right off the paved highway; no rough roads and all of the RV sites are nearly level - but...

Tip for Other Campers:

Most of the area activity involves 4WD, ATV and dirt bike riding. There are a few mediocre hiking trails and one awesome one at Fisher Towers, and dude ranches nearby that offer horse trail rides. Rock climbers flock here. And of course there is river rafting. The river is exceedingly muddy; I'd be surprised if there are any fish in it. Ample photography...

Tips from campers about Hittle Bottom Campground

  • JohnnyVanTucky Book the forest loop or the west side of the beach loop for shelter from the wind. Also triple check the website so you're aware of the facilities that are available.
  • rvlife_66ff22c06e0cd The GPS is WRONG!! Go straight onto the fort, even though the GPS says to turn left and go down the outside. That entrance is closed and you will have to back track through neighborhoods that were never designed for a44 RV
  • BillCoa411 Explore all the trails and military installations. Walk the bluff trail and make sure you get to the Chinese Gardens area. The Guard House bar/restaurant serves some good drinks in a unique "jail" atmosphere. PT (Port Townsend) has a lot to offer. Restaurants, unique stores, waterfront exploration, etc. If you like that kind of exploration then make sure to save some time for doing that. Sirens is a funky/cool restaurant bar on the water. Also check out Quimper's Mercantile. Finistere restaurant in Uptown PT is great.

We weren't able to find camping closer to Moab, but just keep driving east on Hwy 128 and eventually you'll find a campground with a site. We drove straight here because this is where the water...

Tip for Other Campers:

Bring your kayak and paddle up-stream, the river is "lazy" enough in this section to make a little distance before returning to camp. Find a private spot and bathe in the river. Everyone else is going down the river from the campground, and no one else in sight. ;) Moab is 23 miles from this spot, a little distance, but if not tethered to cell phone...
