Question: To anyone who stayed here during winter months, how was the weather? Understanding that the highs are typically around 60, was it sunny or gloomy? In general, how did you dress for walking and relaxing outdoors? We're trying to determine if this is not too far north for a longer stay in Jan-Feb. Thanks.
Answer:
We stayed here for a week at Thanksgiving in 2016. That winter was relatively warm. In fact it was in the 90’s for Thanksgiving weekend. With that said we purchased a home in Holden Beach just over an hour north of Huntington and spent that winter there and it was very nice with many days in the 70’s. Only had a couple nights in the high teens and several nights below freezing. We spent last winter (17/18) there as well and it turned out to be one of the coldest winters in several decades. Lost lots of palm trees and several neighbors had frozen pipes. Best to go to the weather data from NOAA to gather average weather data for winter months. We found more rain than you would see in the winter but also had many clear bright days. Late December early January will be toughest....

This is not an easy campground to get to. And it is not big rig friendly. Would not recommend anyone over 30 feet to attempt it. Sites are smaller and very tight. Many are not level. We arrived at...

Question: Does this park have access to bike trails?
Answer:
There was no access to bike paths in the campground that I found. There are several campgrounds in this recreation area. There are some short hiking trails in the campground that connect the loops. I road the roads in the campground and within the park. Relatively safe I thought but we were there in the off season....

Very clean and well maintained. All wide gravel roads with a mix of patio sites, back ins and pull thrus. WiFi was fair and we ended up using our hotspots. Site was wide and easy back in and plenty...

Lots of malls and shopping areas within 5 miles. Walmart and several grocery stores all nearby....

We stayed at Crosswinds on 4 separate trips between end of October and Early December. Sites are great with paved roads and gravel sites. All are improved with fire pit and table with a lantern pole....
