Question: We are driving to Harmony lakeside park from Vancouver wa. We will pull a 33ft travel trailer with a 1500 Ram. How hard is the route? What’s the elevation on state route 122? What’s the % downhill when driving?! Is the first time going camping with a trailer for us, soo any tips would be appreciated! Thank you.

Answer:

The route is not too bad. Highway 12, although it's 2 lane, is a very easy road. However, there are a couple of hills that are fairly steep, the last uphill ends at the turn to go to Harmony Lake. It's a little tricky and easy to miss or be surprised by. When you turn off 12 the road is fairly narrow, although not dangerous for pulling the trailer. The Park is easy to navigate; the roads are gravel, as are the parking spots. There are a couple of lakeside spots that can be tricky. I would suggest one of the premium spots 1-4 or one of the spots near the office. Being the first time you'll want it to be as easy as possible. Make sure you have a good pressure control for the water; I think the water pressure is OK at the park, but you may, at some point, run into a park that has high pressure water and it can burst pipes. They just go on the end of your hose between the spigot and the trailer. Make sure you have good chocks and something to level the unit - it can be tricky - although the site we were in (#2) was level. We previously stayed in a lake view spot and it was a little tricky to back into. Make sure you have good support for your sewer hose. You might want to buy a gas fire pit since there's a burn ban so you can't start a wood fire. Burn bans are pretty common after Memorial Day. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask. It's a nice drive with a couple of fairly steep hills. Just take your time and you'll be fine....
