Larry & Penny Thompson Memorial Park & Campground

This is where we stayed to visit Biscayne Nat Park and the Everglades, it is close to both. It is off of a very busy road, but convenient for visiting the National Parks....

I'm not sure how crowded the park is in March, but be sure to make a reservation on a Biscayne National Park Institute boat to get out on the water and visit the islands. Look on the park's website, under Plan Your Visit / Things to Do / Guided Tours. There are other tour services, but this one leaves from the park visitor center and focuses on the park. Also, Everglades National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve, and Miami Beach/South Beach are short day trips from the campground....

Just seeing your post, here are a couple of ideas if you are still looking. You will be close to the Fla Keys, if you don’t already have plans it’s worth taking a drive. Leave early in the morning as the drive across the bridges with the sun coming up is pretty special. It’s about a 3 hour drive all the way to Key West, if you drive all the way down to Key West you could have lunch on the water, do a little walking around and make back if you make a long day of it. Or decide to go part way to islamorada have lunch and head back if you’re not up to a long day. You won’t be disappointed. Check out Shark Valley which is within Everglades National Park. It’s a 15 mile loop through the glades where you’ll see a good amount of wildlife. You can bike through, take the tram (for a fee) or walk as far as you want and double back. You are sure to see gators, heron, koots, egrets and possibly pythons....
