• Question:

I have a question about space 052 at topsail State Park. It says it will only hold a 20 foot trailer, but the photos of the site look as though they could easily accommodate my 35 foot trailer. There’s even parking across the street for my pick up truck if need be. Can anyone tell me why I shouldn’t reserve space 052?...

You should call the park and ask the manager to be sure. I know sites inside the loops are plenty long, but #52 is in a different section....

Have you used a site called campsitephotos? It gives great pics of individual campsites. Site 52 is probably 35-40 feet total driveway space when you look at the picture. You'll see on that website that there's a little class c parked on it in the picture with plenty of room for a truck to be parked there, too. Those sites are packed a little closer in general, though, along that row. Is that site the only one available for when you want to go? I've seen large trailers and motorhomes parked in those sites (49-55) so I think you are fine taking it.We typically take site 35 which says it's 40 feet total but the pavement is longer as we fit our 32 foot trailer and truck on there with room to spare. So, I'd take it for sure. Like you say, worst case you park your car in visitor parking!Have fun!...

I cant tell you why as I dont remember any real short sites along there plus it says site is 69 feet. You mite call and ask as depending on who is working some do stick to the rules. The site I stayed on this last time said driveway 34. And our 30 foot with a long body crew cab all fit easy....

I am not familiar with that space, but am puzzled, as to why you would consider reserving it if they say it won’t accomodate your equipment. In case there is a mistake with the information, Maybe yoy shuold call the Park Office for clarification....

You could try calling the park to see if the stats are off on this space. They've been helpful to us on the phone many times. It says the space is 34 ft long which would not fit your unit. Also, you cannot park your truck on the grass at your site or anywhere in the campground....

The reason the site is length limited is because of the pilings across the street that protect the laundry and limit your ability to maneuver your trailer into the site. We have witnessed others try to put a long trailer into that site and give up in frustration....

We stayed in site 51 and I think 52 was about the same size. When I made reservations I noticed that it said it was only about 20 feet long. Not sure why, as it was much longer. Plenty of room for our 32 foot class A and my car. Not sure if you can keep your vehicle parked across from your spot, as it's the laundry room parking area. You could always call the campground directly to check on the length of the site, but I am positive it's much longer than stated. We stayed here in February and just loved it!...

When I access the on-line information and photos posted by ReserveAmerica for site 052, as it seems you are referencing, it does say 20' yet other information and visual cues suggest there might be more space ("Driveway Length: 34 / Max Vehicle Length: 20 / Site Length: 69 / Site Width: 10 / "). I did not stay in this site, but recall walking by this area during our prior visits. Possibly, they are being conservative to allow for possibility of parking a vehicle in addition to the camper/trailer or usable and level area (though as you note, the map shows a common parking area nearby). If this were the only site available for your targeted dates, I would suggest consulting with the park staff there first to confirm. One note, I recall a practice there that "held back" a couple of non-reservable sites to accommodate any occasional hiccups. Good luck, it is indeed a beautiful campsite with lots to explore and worth a visit....

I don't know if this helps, but we stayed in site 49 in a 25 ft. TT and it would not hold much more. You might compare what the site map says for 49 in comparison to 52....

Thanks everyone, but especially to "phowland" who explained that the driveway pilings prevent a large trailer or RV from turning into this site, even though it's 60 feet deep. On this advice, I went back to the reservation site and was lucky enough to find ONE site our size that had opened up over the weekend. I snatched it, and we're in....
