In my opinion it would be - some people like to stay in the park itself but depending on the time of year that gets crowded. I'm not sure of the amenities in the national park itself either. But this RV park, about an hour to the Grand Canyon, has a pool, close to restaurants, full hookup, cable, etc....

We stayed here because they have a “doggie day care”. We did not go on the train but decided to take one of the guided tours. Would definitely stay there again if we ever go back....

There is an RV campground on the south rim of the canyon inside the park that would be more convenient for visiting Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon Railway RV park is about an hour drive from the canyon. The Grand Canyon Railway train leaves from the station across the street from this campground and goes to/from the canyon. You may find it a bit pricey, but we thought it was an enjoyable experience. You can either just go for the day on the train (which only gives you a few hours at the canyon) or stay overnight(s) in one of the inns at the rim of the canyon and take the train back to Williams. We stayed at the RV park on the south rim of the canyon for several days, then traveled to Williams, stayed at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park for a couple of nights and took the train back to Grand Canyon for the day to experience the train ride. We enjoyed visiting Williams, AZ. There are several small restaurants and shops along Route 66 that passes through the town....

Most definitely if you want to take the train ride up which is a great experience. The train depot is only a couple minute walk from the campground. Also if you have any animals they have an excellent dog kennel that has a day care....

Hard to tell, that is the only one we stayed at. BUT at that time I did research and think it we stayed over Christmas so most parks had sites available. Just a large asphalt parking lot but close to the "city" and train if you want to go with that. Strange check-in procedures. Well I suppose it is all in my review....

This park is in the town of Williams right beside the train which goes to the Grand Canyon. It is all paved and easy to get in and out of but unless you are taking the train to the Grand Canyon I would look at other parks. There is one in Tusayan, AZ which is right near the south entrance of the park. We had friends who stayed there in a 5th wheel and they loved it. Also on the opposite side of the road near there is the wonderful IMAX theatre with a National Geographic movie about the canyon which I would recommend you see before visiting the canyon if possible....

We stayed here because we intended to ride the railroad up to the Grand Canyon. It is also a Passport America campground and with our stay in April, we got it at 50% off. There are other things to see and do in the Flagstaff area and Sonoma is not that far away and a nice drive as well....

I think so. Was very clean, quiet, and a short drive to the canyon while located in the heart of Williams, Az. Also close to the train depot if you decide to take that route to the canyon. Williams is a cool historic route 66 town that is fun to explore....

From our viewpoint the answer is 'Yes". Although the park is 65 miles(or about an hours drive each way) away from the Grand Canyon south rim, we stayed there for two reasons: (1) we wanted to ride the Grand Canyon Railway to the South Rim; and (2) we wanted to spend some time exploring the neat little town of Williams, AZ (where the RV park is located). The train ride meant we didn't need to spend anymore driving time, yet still left us with plenty of time to have lunch and ooh and awe over the magnificent Grand Canyon. Exploring the Route 66 roots of Williams was indeed fun. And the Rv park park itself was one of the best places we've stayed. There may be other parks closer to the Grand Canyon, but this is where we'll stay on our next trip to the Grand Canyon. Thanks for asking....

I cannot speak to any RV camp grounds that might be at or closer the the South Rim park entrance but the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park is an hour's drive in your secondary vehicle (from RV park to GC South Rim). The GCR RV Park can accommodate the need for a long pull thru camp site. The parks closer to or at the GC South Rim may not have sites for a long pull thru....

Yes, it would. If you want to drive in for the day it's one of the closest. I'd recommend doing the day train, though. It's fun and a beautiful ride. The train station is right at the hotel/Campground property. Campground is clean & well managed and you can use pool/hotel facilities as well....

I would say so, especially if you are going to the Canyon by train. It has all the amenities, including use of pool/spa and excercise room at the hotel, plus the free shuttle. Also only about two blocks from Route 66. Reservations for the RV resort, train, hotel, pet resort can all be done with one call. Railside RV Park is also nearby and cheaper, but is a bit rundown. There is a KOA which is also not far and has a great deal of things for kids (including go karts and ice cream shop). Hope this helps....

It was for us. . . However it's still about an hour's [easy] drive from the campground to the parks south entrance. We liked the campground because of the conveniences it had - especially the laundry and shower facilities [we don't have one in our little trailer] and at the time we went, we couldn't get a spot at the 2 campgrounds in the park [Mather Campground and Trailer Village RV]...

We are a 45 ft. Motorhome toad so this is a convenient park for us to go to the canyon or elsewhere in the area. It isn't meant as a long term park (although I do think there are a few there) as it is an asphalt parking lot, not a 'campground'. We like the convenience of it to the little town of Williams in that you can walk to downtown restaurants, etc. The train does go right by the campground so there is train noise but not all day long or late at night. You can walk to the train station and then take the train to the canyon.....we just find that easier than taking the big motorhome and not being able to maneuver around....

It depends on how much time you plan on spending in the Grand Canyon. This park is an hour south of GC so it's an easy ride. It's a block from the GC Railway, which is very nice and a fun trip. Staying in the Grand Canyon can be problematic because reservations need to be made a year in advance. There are plenty of other things to do in Williams so it is a good hub. We really like this park....
