Question:
Sun Oct 07 2018We are coming from the northwest and the route suggested by RV Trip Wizard takes us down Hwy 71 to 270. Our RV Garmin wants us to go all the way east on I40 to Little Rock and then south again. Is there a weight, or height, restriction on 71 that would prohibit our class A diesel? We can't figure out a reason to avoid the Trip Wizard route but we also don't want to get stuck somewhere and have to turn around. - Thanks in advance....

We came from the NW also. We took 71 to 270 with no problem. We have a 42' 5th wheel. The only road we were warned to stay away from was hwy. 7.......they say it's beautiful....on a motorcycle!!! Enjoy your trip. We loved Catherine's Landing....

No, there are no restrictions that would affect you. The route suggested (71 to 270) is very nice, wide, scenic with no issues for any length or weight....

We have used Highway 71 to 270 with no problem. We have a 42 foot Class A motorhome and tow a Jeep. The 270 route is nicely direct to get you to the exit for Catherine's Landing, which is Carpenter Dam Road. The resort is very nice!!...

I'm not familiar with Hwy 71 so can't advise you with that. The only word of caution we were given is NOT to follow the GPS if it directs you to take Catherine Heights. We were advised to use 1010 Shady Grove Road-Hot Springs National Park in the GPS. (This is actually the address for Creekside Community Church) This will put you on the correct road that leads to Catherine's Landing which is another 1-2 miles further down on the right on Shady Grove Road. The following information is directly from their website:Catherine’s Landing RV Resort 1700 Shady Grove Road Hot Springs, AR 71901For those with a GPS, we’re located at Latitude/Longitude: 34.451581, -93.000112. But, you may not want to rely on your GPS because they recommend a route that is difficult to traverse in an RV. From the East (Little Rock), take I-30 West to US-70 West, follow that to the US-70 Bypass and exit on Carpenter Dam Road South, follow that until Shady Grove Road where you’ll make a...

Thank you for answering. We asked at the truck stop in Fort Smith and found out the restrictions are there to keep tractor trailers out of downtown Fort Smith. Garmin RV apparently picks that up. No problem with RVs, and, yes, beautiful drive....

I don't know about that road. However, drop by a Love's Truck Stop and buy the Commercial Truckers Atlas. It provides country-wide information about what roads can be traveled (weight and height restrictions, plus)...

Both are listed on the map as RV capable.Rememebr - dependin g on how your GPS is set up. They tend to take you down freeways as a first priority which is why it is trying to route you through LIttle Rock. We went through little rock because we were crossing across the country on I 40. Also rememebr the Garmin RV tends to make you want to take right turns and may take you down a route that favors right turns...
