I did not find it to be very steep, but there are curves so it does classify as winding. There was one tight curve right before the park entrance, and one switchback type curve inside the park. There are two gas stations right off the i-64 exit where you could probably stop and disconnect your towed vehicle. We tow a 32 ft travel trailer with an Express van, and had no trouble negotiating the roads into the park....

We tow a 45 foot 5th wheel and didn't have any problems. Sure, the roads near and into the park are a bit steep with curves, but if 5th wheel trailers can make it, a class A with toad shouldn't have a problem. Having said that, I don't know your experience level with handling your rig. If you feel it would be in your best interest to disconnect, then disconnect. We took it slow where necessary, used a lower gear and exhaust brake and had no issues....

Another tip that I use almost everywhere we go is to use Google street view and "drive" the route using street view to get an idea of what the roads look like getting to our destination. It has saved us on a few occasions where roads weren't quite what we expected. Once, our trip software tried to route us onto a road with a low bridge, even though we had programmed it to avoid low bridges. The software apparently wasn't aware of the bridge height. So always do a virtual drive of the local roads using Google street view....

You can disconnect after exiting I-64 before hitting the steep (probably 10% grade) and windy part. I saw some people come in and leave disconnected. I did not disconnect with a 43' MH towing a full-sized pickup and made it OK by using the compression braking to go slow, but I also took up the whole road on turns. If you go South through Beaver on Hwy 19 and then North on 307 it's a lot straighter, so that is an option, but adds miles....

Just remember you are in the Appalachian mountains of WV but you shouldn’t have any problems. If you are not sure just unhook when you get of the interstate 64 or 77 onto 19 which semi trucks travel it continuously....
