You travel through part of the Sonoran Desert and see the saguaro cactus on your way to stay at this park, which is a great place to stay! I would call the local number on their website and ask if you can go to any park visitors center. I did notice there is a museum in Tucson. Enjoy....

It appears the national monument is the desert area. We drove, looking for an entrance, but didn't find one. According to what we found on the Internet, it is somewhere between 15-30 miles east of the KOA....

The national monument is in two sections east and west of Tucson....

According to my atlas, Sonoran Desert National Monument is just a little bit east of Gila Bend. There are different points of access from I-8 and local roads. Recommend you check out the park website for additional access information and some things you probably should know before you visit. Also recommend the Space Age restaurant in town, decent food, decent price and the funky sci-fi architecture is at least worth a look (hope that's not considered advertising...)...

I don’t know because we were only there as a stopover. I bet you could call the park directly and ask them. They are very helpful....

Yes, from the back of the park there are trails to the monument....
